Already paid my Turo damage claim. Now they’re demanding another $1,248 weeks later. Has anyone successfully disputed a supplemental estimate?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice from anyone who’s dealt with Turo claims because I’m honestly confused and exhausted.
Timeline
- I rented a 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid from April 14 – June 1.
- I returned the vehicle on June 1.
- The host reported a scratch on the driver’s side rear bumper after I returned it.
- June 6: Turo notified me that a damage claim had been opened.
- June 8: The repair shop completed the original estimate.
- I accepted responsibility for the original claim and already paid the amount Turo assessed ($833), which has already been charged to my credit card.
- Then on June 25, a supplemental estimate was created.
- On June 30, Turo emailed me saying I now owe another $1,248.33 because the repair shop allegedly found “hidden damage.”
Here’s what’s confusing me
The original claim was for what appeared to be a single rear bumper scratch.
Now the supplemental estimate suddenly adds:
- more labor hours,
- additional paint/refinishing,
- pre- and post-repair diagnostic scans,
- bumper overhaul labor,
- and changes one rear bumper filler from remove/reinstall to replacement.
However, neither Turo’s email nor the supplemental estimate actually explains:
- what hidden damage was found,
- when it was discovered,
- who documented it,
- why it wasn’t included in the original estimate,
- or how Turo determined those additional repairs were directly caused during my rental.
I’ve asked Turo for:
- photographs of the alleged hidden damage,
- technician notes,
- repair documentation,
- pre/post scan reports,
- and an explanation of why the supplemental estimate was necessary.
So far, I haven’t received those documents.
Another thing that confused me is that the vehicle appears to have received another guest review dated June 30. I understand a review date doesn’t necessarily tell me the exact rental dates, so I’m not saying this proves anything by itself. But it did make me wonder about the repair timeline and how Turo determines responsibility if a vehicle is used again while a supplemental claim is still being processed.
At this point, I’ve formally disputed the supplemental charge and asked Turo to provide the documentation supporting it before I pay anything further.
My questions
- Has anyone here successfully disputed a Turo supplemental estimate?
- Did Turo actually provide photos or technician notes showing the hidden damage?
- Is it normal for a supplemental estimate to appear almost three weeks after the original estimate?
- Were you able to get a Claims Manager to review your case?
- Is there anything else I should be asking Turo for?
I’m not trying to avoid responsibility for damage I actually caused. I already paid the original claim. I just don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask for the evidence supporting an additional $1,248.33 before being held responsible for it.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s gone through something similar.
