Is it really as bad as it looks

I’m considering starting a fleet. Everything I read is negative though. I understand it’s Reddit but how many accidents does the average host have to deal with in a year? How many cars does someone need for this to be worth it?

When I see someone commenting as an expert on getting out the smell of smoke, or retrieving your car from the tow yard, or procedures for a total loss… I have to think it’s happen to these people often enough that they have a good system for dealing with it.

Is it just Reddit that’s making me think this is a horrible idea?

Is renting a car from someone with no reviews problematic?

I have never used Turo personally until I recently booked a luxury car at a decent price. I noticed they have no reviews and I’m a bit anxious now on how this is going to turn out. Are there any red flags I need to pay attention to or questions I may need to ask?

Parking Garage Pick-up

I want to leave my car at the airport parking garage for a customer to pick up. The airport obviously charges to leave the parking garage once entered. What do I do? Does the customer just pay for it?

Robotaxi In Houston?

While scrolling through Instagram as always, I ran into a fascinating story. Apparently Tesla’s Robotaxi service has been activated in the City Of Houston and has been running since early April 2026. Also it’s running in a 25 mile radius from 6 AM to 2 AM. So I had Gemini to map it out. The following is AI’s response:

To help you visualize a 25-mile area centered on Downtown Houston, a straight-line (radial) distance of 25 miles extends roughly to the following landmarks and surrounding communities in each direction:

North: Reaches past the Greater Inwood area and nears the edge of Spring and George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

South: Extends down toward Pearland and the edge of Friendswood.

East: Stretches across Baytown and approaches the Trinity Bay area.

West: Reaches deep into the Katy area, just past the Energy Corridor.

A 25-mile radius creates a circle that encompasses an area of nearly 1,963 square miles, covering most of the immediate Houston metropolitan region inside and well beyond the Beltway 8 loop.

In Laymans terms, Robotaxi reaches both airports and the outskirts right outside the beltway. I know what some of you are going to say “ it’s not gonna affect the Rideshare industry. It’s going to be business as usual. “ what I’ve seen with my own two eyes is Waymo’s range increasein the market plus adding cars to its fleet(maybe).

Once the Rivian/Uber/Nuro partnership finish testing in the area and go online, that’s three options for passengers that will cut at least a fifth of independent contractors opportunity to make money. (In Phoenix, Wamo has 20% share of the market and over 130 miles of service area)

The question is how long will it take for passengers to discover and try these services and how long before human driver may become obsolete?

This is not to scare or gaslight. Just to inform and have a legitimate conversation.

Huge confusion

In Feb of 2024 (!) my gf and I flew to another city and I rented a car through Turo for 3 days, and I paid for the Premier protection plan. Someone dinged the back corner in the parking lot while we were inside eating dinner with a friend at a restaurant. I took photos of the whole car, informed the host, reported the damage to Turo. We returned the vehicle to the host early + I let Turo handle it. Months went by. Host pressured me into paying his 500$ deductible + I did. That was fine with me at the time. End of story. Fast forward 2.5 years. A claim was filed against my auto insurance policy this week from Turo. Turo initially told me (on audio recording) that they did not file a claim against my insurance, but they did. They sent me an email stating that they didn't file a claim + that I was responsible for $0 out of pocket since I had paid for premier protection. But now they say that premier protection is "secondary to my personal insurance". My policy says it's my fault + wants to charge me a $500 collision deductible 2.5 years after the incident

Also: In 2024 I initally did some research and found the auto body shop who wrote the quote for the host / Turo. The shop sent me the write up with full photos of the vehicle. The initial damage was assessed at 534$ and no other parts of the vehicle were damaged. I reached out to that same shop this week. The manager looked into it and told me that the host brought that same vehicle back in this past month (2.5 years later) and got a new damage quote for 3,850$ and filed a supplement 2.5 years after the initial damage quote back in 2024. The manager sent me the new supplement write up with the new quote and pictures which show extensive new damage to the front of the vehicle and a cracked windshield. So I have the before + after quote but Turo doesn't know this. This is a scam.

I told Turo that the supplement was filed illegally but they won't take my side on this. My insurance isn't battling it. Not sure what to do, as I live 2,000 miles away from the city where this is going down.

Thoughts?

How do you handle Turo listing photos before you upload them?

Curious how other hosts manage this. Do you mostly upload straight from your phone, edit in something like Lightroom or your camera roll, hire a photographer, or use a tool that cleans up background/lighting?

I’ve been using a tool lately for background and lighting before I upload, but I’m not sure how common that is. What’s your actual workflow — and if you use an app or service, what do you use?

Not looking for recommendations to buy anything — just trying to see what most hosts actually do in practice.

Turo late fee during snowstorm + terrible customer service experience | Dispute using Amex + BBB

wanted to share my experience and see if anyone else has gone through something similar with Turo.

I rented a car through Turo in the Lake Tahoe area during winter. Everything was fine until return day, when severe weather and chain control made roads extremely difficult and caused major delays. To make things more complicated, the host had specifically warned me not to use chains on the vehicle.

I ended up in a situation where returning the car exactly on time honestly felt impossible and unsafe. Roads were heavily impacted, chain restrictions were in place, and driving conditions were bad.

I communicated what was happening and explained the delays, expecting at least some flexibility or understanding given the circumstances. Instead, Turo still enforced a late fee.

What frustrated me most was how rigid the whole process felt. This wasn’t someone oversleeping or deciding to keep a car longer for convenience. It was severe weather and public safety conditions outside of my control.

I tried resolving it through customer support, but the responses felt very scripted and policy-driven, with little room for common sense. I documented everything: road conditions, weather reports, communication with the host, timing, and what happened.

Eventually, I escalated the issue further:

  • contacted Turo customer support multiple times
  • filed a BBB complaint
  • disputed the charge through Amex
  • filed a complaint with the California Attorney General consumer complaint division
  • provided documentation showing the weather and road situation

The most frustrating part was feeling like there was no real human judgment involved. I completely understand policies exist, but there should be some flexibility when there are severe weather conditions, road restrictions, or situations where returning a vehicle safely on time is not realistically possible.

Has anyone else dealt with something similar with Turo? Were you able to get anywhere with support, disputes, or escalations?

First Time Booking Etiquette

I'm going to be using Turo for the first time to rent a car. I chose Turo because my daily driver is a manual and Turo is the only service I know of offering manual cars for rent.

My questions are, should I send the car's owner a message after I book, and what should I say? I want them to feel confident that I know how to drive manual since I know it's getting rarer and rarer. Is this something you'd even advise doing?

How long until 1st Rental?

How long did it take for your car to get rented out after listing?

I just put my car on Turo and started to wonder when my first rental would come.

Never Using Turo Again

Just venting. I had a van scheduled months ahead, and today, 3 days before its expected, they cancel it for safety. Okay. Turo wasn't much help but after speaking to a supervisor was able to at least get a credit to help with the new costs of booking same week for a band's tour. Then that vehicle cancels due to the host "being new" and getting confused about how to list and didn't mean to list it. This leaves me and my band in a bind last minute to travel from Indiana to Baltimore for something we cannot cancel. Very frustrating and due to the last minute nature, potentially extremely expensive even though it was planned far ahead of time. Will never use Turo again.

Guest didnt know what a parking brake is.

Guest drove for 30 minutes with the ebrake on. Says the car is terrible it doesn't shift and the brakes aren't working properly.

Brings it back i can smell the rear brakes, rear rotors are blue .

Got a mobile mechanic to come by, the guest asks what's the red "P!". He tells him the parking brake is to secure the vehicle while parked.

The mechanic says the brake fluid is boiled , rear brakes are toast and other rubbers may need to he replaced.

Guest gets a different car and is gone.

He's admitted it in the app , and says he told customer support , he did mechanical damage and gets away with it. Says he informed customer service on the phone as well.

Here I am replacing all rear brakes on my dime. Not wear and tare they only have 8000 kms on them ( just did full brakes 3 months ago)

It is what it is. Just venting and the guests we have to deal with these days.

Running Turo Ops Remote?

I'm moving one of my vehicles to ATL for the summer but I'm not based there. Is there a good way to set up Turo to manage it remotely?

I'm thinking - grab a parking spot, keys in a lockbox, get someone local on upwork to handle the post trip and cleaning as a cohost. I have Turo cars in a few different cities, but this would be the first time setting it up fully remote. Anyone have experience with this?

Don't rent from Turo

I was just told that I am restricted from renting in New York. There is no logical explanation for this restriction. I am 61 years old and have no financial issues. I have paid any tickets I have gotten over the years - none in over a decade. I had one fender bender in the state 45 years ago. They could not tell me why I was restricted and they said there is no way to overcome the restriction. Seems they don't care they lost a customer forever.

Does Flex Pricing Work?

Hey everyone! I just listed my 2024 Mercedes-Benz C300 last Monday and have had 6 bookings, 1 cancellation (booking was all the way out in September).

So far, 2/5 trips have been completed with 5 star reviews. I have the price set at $100 a day flat rate with unlimited miles, near limitless availability, and nearly no minimum amount of days required to rent.

I guess I’m here because in my head, I figured that with the lax restrictions and what I see market-wise to be a very cheap price, I figured the vehicle would be gone almost every day of the month. Turo keeps suggesting that $100 a day during the week is overpriced, but I just don’t see how that can be the case based on the price of much lower “quality” vehicles (I’ve seen Nissan Versas with thousands of trips for $120/day).

Do Turo’s flex pricing recommendations work? Does that offer more view-ability in the apps algorithm somehow?

Is turo really that bad?

After following a bunch of stories on this sub, it’s becoming clear to me that turo is not a good company and protects owners over customers every time. I’m supposed to be renting a car for 3 months while on a work trip in New Mexico. I’m worried about whether this is a good idea considering all of the unethical owners and fraudulent claims I’ve seen stories about on this sub. My booking is supposed to be non refundable though - I haven’t paid for the whole amount yet but I’m worried about losing my money for what I have paid for. Would love some insight and recommendations about what to do.

Host Recommendation in FLL

Looking for a turo host in fort lauderdale at the airport if anyone has any recommendations. I am 21 so turo will be my most economical option for renting a vehicle for my trip. I know to use all star hosts with a lot of good reviews and I will be using my credit card which provides some insurance coverage and confirmed it applies to turo as well as turos insurance.

I rented a car and was plannin a short trip, I sent my info , paid, the app would not allow me to upload. The host was very helpful but upon pick up I sat for 3 hours trying to get it working, I was so frustrated with customer service , I could not start my trip at 930 pm so i asked out of frustration to cancel, I was then told it was my fault and would be charged 70.00 fee. I will be reaching out to the BBB and moving forward with legal proceedings. I was very let down on the entire experiece and do not reccomned this app!!!!

Turo - car booking advice

I'm trying to save as much $ as possible (family health is going to lead to a lot of future trips). When booking a car on Turo, how can you decide whats cheaper; picking up at the airport, (obviously more conveniant) and possible parking (where/when is that cost disclosed) or paying for an uber and possible parking at some undisclosed location? It's hard to do the math without knowing the actual location. I find it odd the pickup location isn't disclosed until after you book the car, and after the free cancellation period, unless you pay extra $
