Community Update: Addressing Toxicity and New Moderation Policies

Hey everyone,

I want to take a moment to address the current state of the community and outline some necessary changes to how this subreddit will be moderated moving forward.

This space was created to celebrate the art of arrangement - the intense chords, vocal stacks, and incredible harmony that we all appreciate. The goal has always been to foster a community where we can analyse, discuss, and share our favourite musical moments.

Recently, however, the level of toxicity in the comments has gotten out of hand. Specifically, there has been a massive spike in aggressive behavior, insults, and vitriol directed at both creators and fellow community members regarding the use of auto-tune or pitch correction. Calling an arrangement or a performance "performative bullshit" simply because it utilizes modern vocal processing is not only unhelpful, but it completely derails the conversation.

It is perfectly fine to have analytical discussions and disagreements about production techniques, vocal processing, and stylistic preferences. But there is a very clear line between critiquing a production choice and attacking people.

To maintain the standard of this community, the moderation team is taking this issue much more seriously starting today - the 28th of April.

TLDR of the New Policy:

  • Zero Tolerance for Toxicity: If you resort to hostility, name-calling, or aggressive gatekeeping over tuning or production choices, your comment will be removed, additionally...
  • Permanent Bans: We are no longer just quietly removing messages. Users who engage in this kind of toxic behavior will now face permanent bans from the subreddit.

We want this to remain a place where people can celebrate incredible harmonies and complex arrangements without dealing with a wall of negativity in the comments. We can disagree on what sounds good, but we are going to do it respectfully.

Thank you to everyone who consistently shows up to share great music and contribute to positive, thoughtful discussions.

If you see someone violating these rules, please use the report button so we can handle it quickly.

Best,
Sleepy
