Open source drone community - Arrow

Hello, I am Sleety, a contributor to Arrow, I have occasionally posted test flight footage here on r/drones. We are a reasonably large bunch of aviation/tech nerds that meet online (discord) and design aircraft, all open source. Any one is welcome if you share simialr interests and would like to hang out!

Repo is in the comments too if anyone wants to dig in.

The video is me scrolling the docs for Project Quiver, our first finished aircraft. It's a 25 kg quadcopter, licensed CERN-OHL-S-2.0, and it's documented down to the build steps so anyone can make one, fork it, or tell us where we got it wrong (people do, and we're working on making it better)

What we've been up to lately:

- Quiver (quadcopter drone in video)

- Spearhead, a fixed-wing VTOL for longer range, flew with its wings fitted for the first time last weekend. Hover only so far, forward flight testing is next.

- Caribou, a bigger hexacopter for heavier work, has had its first prop tests.

Thank you and everyone welcome if you like to design/build/test drones and/or solve hardware problems ⚙️

Our 200kg open-source hexacopter, first test with props fitted

I'm Gavin, a contributor at Arrow, the open-source community building this.

This was today's first test of 'Caribou' with props fitted. It's a 200kg class hexacopter, six Hobbywing X15 motors on 18S, strapped to a trailer bed at roughly a third throttle. Static test, not a hover. It hasn't flown yet (next week hopefully!) Lot's more testing to come.

It's open source and we want help making it better. The repo has the CAD and the PCBs, and the Discord is where the work happens. We just enjoy building big drones together.

Big congrats to Julius, one of our contributors who has been leading Project Caribou! 👏

Smooth VTOL test flight (takeoff + forward flight + landing)

Our online community (Arrow) is building open source VTOL aircraft and drones, so we 3D printed the Flightory Stork to get some practice with RC VTOL flight.

As you can see in the video it was a success! We are very excited to build our own aircraft (project spearhead).

Spearhead is still in the design phase so if you want to contribute and/or keep up with its progress over the next few weeks, we have an active Discord community. All kinds of builders welcome to hack along with us.

We should mount a FPV camera for the next test flights 🤔

VTOL full transition and forward flight

Our online community (Arrow) is building open source VTOL aircraft so we 3D printed the Flightory Stork to get some practice with RC VTOL flight.

As you can see in the video it was a success! We are so excited to build our own aircraft (project spearhead). Spearhead is still in the design phase so if you want to contribute and/or keep up with it's progress over the next few weeks, we have an active Discord community - if anyone wants to see more test flights of Stork, see earlier this week in the community-chat channel 😀
