how to best help my lyft driver?

hi folks. last night I (passenger) took a ride in [name of border town withheld] and my driver wasn’t fully paying attention and got onto the border crossing to Canada (common problem, happens to drivers all the time in this area). he was forced to turn around and exit back through the US customs area.

he spoke limited English and I tried to explain the situation to the border guards, but when they began pressing my driver directly about his passport and status, he was cuffed and detained by border patrol.

I left the Lyft ride open all night to make sure he got home safe. the ride eventually ended (without map tracking) several hours later at an address in the suburbs, which I’m guessing is his house, so it seems likely to me that he was released and the ride ended once he was able to charge his phone.

obviously, I’ve been concerned for this guy’s safety, and would like to make sure he’s all right without interfering with his ability to work for Lyft in the future.

- I’ve sent a message through the Lost & Found feature checking if he got home OK; nothing back yet.

- would it be advisable to ask ADT help to confirm that he was active on the app, or will anything that I send to them lead to some kind of black mark on his account? should I just keep holding off for now?

- the final Lyft tab came to something like $140 (vs. an $18-ish projected fare). given the circumstances I’m not particularly concerned about getting that money back, but I don’t necessarily want Lyft to take a huge percentage of that money and would prefer more of it go to dude directly. should I just leave it as is or should I try to get a fare adjustment and leave a larger tip?

sorry if these are dumb questions or if this is out of this sub’s depth; I think I’m just at a loss for what to do lol. thanks!
