What is this part on the barrel for? The barrel in my parts kit doesn’t have it. Just curious if it’s necessary.

Ctar parts kit came in and everything is in really good condition, but looking at the buffer on the bolt carrier I was wondering if anybody knows if it’s normal for it to be spread that much? And it’s spread apart more on one side.
