Should I resign after only 2 months as a private school teacher?
I'm 22M and I graduated last May with a Bachelor's in Secondary Education, major in English. I got hired by a private school before I even graduated, so I started working right after graduation.
To be honest, I really thought teaching was what I wanted to do. Even though I'm an English major, I'm currently teaching elementary students, and I actually enjoy being in the classroom.
The problem is everything else.
I've only been here for 2 months, but I already feel drained. My routine is basically work, go home, sleep, and do it all over again. I don't even have the energy to enjoy my weekends anymore.
What makes it harder is that I feel like I'm constantly being watched. One of the tenured teachers checks almost everything I do, from my lesson plans to the seatworks I make. Then there are two other senior teachers who keep giving me advice, even when I didn't ask for it. I know they probably mean well, and I understand I'm new, but it feels like they don't trust me to handle my own class.
I also feel like there's so much pressure because I'm a new teacher. Every little thing I do seems to be noticed.
For context:
- 22 years old
- Fresh graduate
- Bachelor's in Secondary Education, major in English
- Private school teacher
- Salary is around PHP 13,000/month
- The school is close to my house, so commuting isn't a problem.
I've been thinking about resigning and applying to an office-based ESL company in Ortigas instead. The pay seems better from what I've seen, and I wonder if I'd be happier there.
If you've been in a similar situation, what did you do? Did teaching become easier with time, or was leaving the better decision?
I'd appreciate any advice, especially from teachers or people who left teaching for a different career.
