Control Fundamentals Questions for Interview

Couple of weeks ago, I had asked for advice for an Apple controls engineering role. It was an interview with the hiring manager, and now I am preparing for the panel interview. According to the recruiter, it is going to be mostly all control fundamentals questions. Currently working through my old controls book problem set, but what are your favorite questions to ask/that you have been asked in an interview? Any question that stumped you? A question that made you think? Also, are there any Leetcode style question bank for controls?

Apple Panel Interview Scheduling

I am trying to schedule my second round of interview with Apple, and unfortunately, the interviewers are only available next week or end of the month. I am outside the country next week; the vacation had been planned for months and also happens to be my close friend’s wedding. I have told the recruiter that I am available literally any time after I come back, but am worried that they might count this against me. Any advice/suggestion? Am I freaking out for no reason?

Need Advice: How to Move Industries

Hello, I am a mechanical engineer with a PhD in controls. I currently work in the energy industry and have been trying to switch jobs. However, I have been rejected from every role in the robotics/AV industry. Even when the interviews go well, I have been told that without industry specific experience, I a not hire-able. I have also been thinking about pivoting to product/program management, and that has also need been successful. I have been applying for almost a year now, and at a loss for how to proceed.

I am located in the Bay Area, fyi.

How to not be anxious about a less than perfect training phase?

I have been training for the SF City Half Marathon. With 6 weeks to go, I have been feeling very anxious about a less than perfect training phase. I am worried that I haven't done enough and keep telling myself I should drop out.

For example, the week of 18 May I missed 2 runs because my friends and I took a trip to Yosemite. But we did hike ~10 miles over 2 days with one of the hikes having an elevation gain of 2300ft. Yesterday I was supposed to do a long run, but my legs were definitely not up for it, so I biked for an hour. Are these substitutions okay? Am I thinking about this too much?

Intuitive Surgical Interview - Robotics Controls Systems Analyst

Hello,
Don't know if this is the right forum, but I have an interview coming up with Intuitive Surgical for a Systems Analyst role, and was wondering if anyone here could provide some advice on how to prepare. It is an interview with the hiring manager; supposed to be 30 minutes of talking about projects and 30 minutes of mechatronics + controls technical interview. Thanks in advance!

Started running in October 2025 and ran my first half marathon in February in 2:58. Goal was to not DNF. My training was very rudimentary; peak mileage was 12 miles/week. Also had to take a break of 2 weeks before the race because of shin splints.

I am currently focusing on increasing my mileage and running around \~16 miles/week. Goal is to go up to 25 miles/week. Signed up for a second half marathon for the end of July, and planning on following Boston Athletic Association's training plan. The plan has some HM simulation runs. I am trying to figure out what I want my pace to be. I would really love to finish the race in 2:30, but I don't know if the goal is too ambitious.

For reference, my easy run pace ranges from 13:30 - 14:20.

Hello, I have officially started my training for my second HM in July, and had a few questions.

  1. I am finding it hard to keep up my regular 3 day strength training with increasing running load. I am thinking of going down to 2 lift days for the duration of the training. Is that okay? I have never lifted for less than 3 days a week, and having a hard time convincing myself it is going to be okay.
  2. I am following Level 2 of the BAA half marathon plan (here) with the shorter runs on Saturday/Sunday removed, to meet my current mileage, and was wondering what it means when the plan asks to run 4 miles at HM pace. Does that mean I should be running each mile at my HM pace or the average pace for that 4 miles should be my HM pace?
  3. Do speed sessions feel easier as the training progresses?
