Plz help me prepare this 30” box for transplant.
Hi,
So we settled on this box for transplant, 30x30x30” that tapers down to 24” at the bottom. She’s been in the current 24” box about five years. We know which cactus soil we are going with, so now help is needed preparing the box.
I see that some people treat their wood planters with linseed oil to extend the life of the wood. Ideally this box will only need to last 3-5 years, so I’m not sure if treating the wood will be necessary.
Also, some of the spaces between boards are quite wide so I’m thinking of using landscape cloth to cover those and then drilling drainage holes. We will also set the box on heavy duty risers to preserve the bottom of the wood as long as possible.
The last hurdle will be trying to move the box to a new location a few years from now, as with soil/pumice/cactus it’ll prob be 4-500lbs.
Thoughts on preparation to make this a smooth transition are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
