Iron ore? Or something else. American river California

Very heavy rock compared to other nearby rocks. Seems to have a layer of oxidation. Black on the inside like black sand but has small bits of white mixed in. Any other ideas or specific names are greatly appreciated!

I’m sure it has something to do with alloy mixtures of different metal compounds but is there a better explanation than what I’m currently thinking? Thanks and good luck to all
