Arc Fever
It's that time of year again. Since I think it's pretty clear most people who use this sub are either new or just have a passing interest in horse racing, I would just like to remind you all to temper your expectations for the upcoming Arc. Both the JP contingent and the competition look a lot bleaker than last year, too.
Questions for CCs/ former CCs
I'll preface this post by saying I'm only a non-rate. I have a long ways to go, both in terms of time and also progress before I can even become a CC. But almost every day since graduating I've either thought about what it would be like as a CC or I've combed the internet for any kind of information on it. I don't know what exactly drives me but I know this feeling and it's the kind of thing I would act on if I had the chance.
That being said, I'm not really sure if any CC/former CC's browse this sub but I figure this is my best shot at finding one to answer some questions.
What is it like living over there? I understand the hours are rough (to say the least), but how is the cost of living/quality of housing? I'm typing this all from my UPH room that I'm quite satisfied with despite its size.
What is it like returning to the fleet after being a CC? I don't know exactly how long you stay as a CC (is it 3 years?) but regardless it's a long time to spend away from your rate. Is it common for people to struggle after completing their CC jobs or does it make as much of an impact as I'm assuming it would?
What is the selection process like? I'm mostly curious how competitive it is. Since scores on the physical exam are (going to be) used for marks for advancement my best guess would be to just score as high as possible, but I'm not really sure how else to make myself stand out in comparison to others.
How exactly do punishments in CC school work? Like, in training if you screw up they just send you back a week, but since CC school has a limited number of participants and they aren't blitzing classes out every week I doubt they can afford to do that. Is the attrition rate as high as it is in training?
This is open more to anyone who can answer but what is the special assignment pay like? I looked at the numbers and it seems it ranges anywhere from insignificant to not a whole lot, but I couldn't see anything specifically for CCs. Of course this isn't the make-or-break for me I'm just a little curious.
