Does the Uni expect us to be unemployed?

One of my lecturers said that time management is much easier as a student before you enter full time work. As someone who needs to work two casual jobs to support myself while studying, I find it very hard to manage my time. Although I do manage to complete all my work to a high standard, my lecturers statement made me wonder if there is some ignorance to how we live coming from lecturers.

I wonder if he is aware that for many of us, we are actually working from 9:30am to 1:30am: for instance i may go to uni, then straight to my retail job then straight to my bar job.

What is the minimum I need to experiment with projection mapping?

Hi, I’m an artist/designer interested in experimenting with projection mapping. I’ve seen some good options on marketplace but the size just seems overkill for me, I just want to mess around with small objects at home like tea cups and I don’t want a projector that takes up heaps of space. At the same time I don’t want to create more e-waste and buy something shit even if just for fun. A lot of people say that 3000 lumens is the minimum, but most smaller projectors aren’t that bright. I was wondering if there were any smaller projectors people had good experiences with for small scale mapping, or if it is necessary to go for a larger scale projector for this? I will say price is not an object yet, I’ll get an idea of what the options are first and set my budget accordingly.

Missed the boat for The Odyssey at IMAX Melbourne. What’s the next best option?

Hey guys, I really want to see The Odyssey in its original aspect ratio soon but it seems we’ve missed the boat on 70mm at Melbourne Museum. Can’t do Tuesdays so IMAX Melbourne laser is out. What is the next best experience for the IMAX aspect ratio in Melbourne?

Andrew Watt’s influence on the sounds of FT and HD

I’d like to point out, as I only learned this recently, that some of the production choices that people criticise Andrew Watt for were probably not his choice. Now I have been a bit of a Watt hater on this sub previously but I have to apologise to the man. I came across this interview Watt did at the time of Hackney Diamonds, which suggests that Andrew Watt was more interested in capturing a rawer sound for the stones.

As for why the mixing is so polished, including pitch correction on mick, as well as the absolutely smashed master, it seems like this was Mick’s preference rather than Watt’s: “I had several conversations with Mick about a new Stones album, and he said that they did not want to do the same old thing”… Watt then goes on to explain that he felt it was important to record the group live with the guitarists in the same room without click tracks, but that “it would be [his] challenge to make sure it’s mixed in a modern way”.

This is somewhat ambiguous, but how I read it was that Watt, being a massive Stones nerd, was intent on getting a classic sound for the Stones, but Mick wanted a more “modern” sound. Thus they reached a happy medium where Watt could track the band in a classic way, and then leave the mixing to Serban Ghenea to achieve a “modern pop” sound. This makes a lot of sense when you consider that the only songs that Watt mixed from the last 2 albums were Rolling Stone Blues and Beautiful Delilah. Both of which are mixed to sound a lot rawer and roomier than the other tracks.

When I consider Watt’s role as a producer on this album, and which creative choices can more likely be attributed to him, mick or serban, I think I appreciate Watts work a lot more. I wonder if someday we will hear alternate mixes of the last 2 albums, perhaps mixes from Watt himself.
