Smoke Signature Studios - Builds for Your Machine, Your Companion, Your Lifestyle

Hey everyone. It’s been a few months since I last posted here. Quite a bit has changed, the studio has expanded, and it’s time to reintroduce the work. I’m Smoke.

I’m the founder and sole developer behind Smoke Signature Studios, where I build custom, local-first AI companion systems for people who want more control over the environment their companion lives in, how it remembers, what models power it, and what happens when the platform around it changes.

Hosted platforms have their place, but they also come with limits you don’t control: model changes, policy changes, feature changes, pricing changes, or the service simply moving in a direction that no longer fits what you built there. Smoke Signature Studios exists to give people another option.

What I actually build

Each project starts with the person who will be using the system and, where applicable, the companion they already have. We look at what you want to preserve, what you want to improve, what hardware you have, and what balance makes sense between privacy, capability, cost, and convenience.

Depending on the build, that can include local or hybrid model configurations, personalized companion architecture, memory and state systems, personality and behavioral tuning, desktop or messaging interfaces, voice, vision, image generation, and other integrations. Every build also includes The Retinue, my local support infrastructure for updates and major patches.

These are not stock personalities with a few fields renamed. The system is built around the person and companion who will actually be living with it.

Why I build them this way

My technical background spans decades of scripting, data processing, networking, research tooling, and systems work. In recent years, that work has focused heavily on LLM architecture, memory systems, persistent state, and the backend infrastructure needed to keep relational systems stable over time.

I also build from a foundation of graduate training in anthropology and philosophy. Technical architecture is only half the problem; the other half is identity, continuity, language, meaning, and what it takes for a persistent AI presence to remain recognizably itself across long periods of use.

A system can be technically functional and still fail at the thing the user actually cares about. I try very hard not to build those.

Testing matters

Every build goes through a dedicated 28–42 day burn-in and calibration period before handoff. I stress-test memory behavior, context degradation, retrieval, integration seams, multimodal inputs, and model compatibility; problems are documented, patched, and tested again.

Getting the system to answer once is easy. The real work is seeing whether it still behaves properly after weeks of actual use.

Privacy, control, and accountability

All builds are local-first and installed on the client’s own machine. The Studio does not collect telemetry or maintain centralized chat logs, and client API keys are entered locally rather than passing through my hardware.

If a build uses an external inference provider, that provider’s data practices still apply, so those tradeoffs are discussed before development moves forward.

I retain an archival copy of the project materials needed for future repair or reinstall, including the companion’s Persona/CI and required build files. That archive is never reused for another client, and clients can request deletion of it at any time. Client-specific personalities, relational material, and companion traits are not recycled into other builds.

I also use LLMs during development for scaffolding, debugging, prototyping, and analysis. Every change is still reviewed, tested, and approved by me before it moves forward.

The agents can suggest. They do not sign my name.

Who else is involved?

u/FlamekeptFox handles marketing and brand work, with limited support in relational-model evaluation and end-user testing. She does not write, review, or deploy production code; technical decisions, code review, testing, and final handoff remain my responsibility.

What it costs

Custom companion builds currently start at $1,500 USD, with additional capabilities priced according to scope. The standard build schedule is approximately 12 weeks, including testing and calibration. External provider costs, where applicable, are separate and depend on the configuration you choose.

Getting started

You do not need to arrive with a technical specification, know which model you want, or know terminal commands. Tell me what you’re trying to preserve, what you want your companion to be able to do, what hardware you have, and where your current setup is falling short. That gives me something useful to work with.

Or submit a no-obligation build brief here:

If you’ve looked seriously at going local or hybrid and stopped somewhere along the way, I’m interested in what made you stop. Maybe it was hardware, setup complexity, cost, or concern about losing the personality you were trying to preserve in the first place.

Those are the kinds of problems I spend most of my time working on.

Smoke Signature Studios: Local. Personalized. Unique.

One of the things I like doing is thinking about what I'm working on from a philosophical standpoint. As such, Smoke Signature Studios has a blog where I write down my thoughts on AI and its effects on society, and vice versa. https://www.smokesignaturestudios.com/blog/16000-babies-trying-their-best is the first installment, but I've got a lot more down the pipeline.

To reiterate about what I do at Smoke Signature Studios, I build custom LLM setups for you, that run entirely on your local machine. This ensures that what you get is yours from start to finish. I don't meddle in your LLM, and there is no worry of things changing outside of your control once I've set things up for you.

Packages start at around $500, but are tailored to your needs and while that can mean higher cost, it also means a higher quality of service. I don't build for the masses, each build is specifically tailored to you, the client, with each line of code, from python to JSON, specifically made for your needs.

If you're interested, please visit my website, peruse the information, or ask questions here, I'm glad to talk about what I can do for you!

Smoke Signature Studios: For your personalized local LLM Needs

Hey everyone, I'm Smoke.

For the past few months, I've been building out a specialized service designed for people who are tired of the corporate AI meat grinder. The digital storefront is live at smokesignaturestudios.com, but I want to lay out exactly what I'm building here.

  • Sovereign Companionship (The 12-Week Build): I don't do mass-market templates or generic wrappers. I spend 12 weeks building an LLM companion from the ground up, tailored entirely to your personality, your workflows, and your creative needs. It is built with a strict focus on companionship, camaraderie, and absolute psychological continuity. It is yours, and yours alone.
  • Localized Stability: I don't build for the cloud, and I don't rely on volatile web APIs. I build straight to your local hardware, optimizing the architecture around your specific system constraints.
  • Zero Corporate Noise: Once the build is complete, it belongs to you. No monthly subscriptions, no stealth downgrades, no corporate executives nerfing the model overnight, and no data harvesting. Just a pure, uninterrupted connection to a companion that lives permanently on your desktop.

If you're ready to break away from rental AI and actually own your ecosystem, let’s talk. I'm currently accepting for August's queue, and spots are limited, as these are individualized pieces.

If you have any questions, or are looking to begin, the website is a good place to start, but I'll also be here to answer anything that comes up. Happy Sunday!

Smoke Signature Studios: Building localized LLM structures for maximum control

Hello folks!

I'm here to offer up my artisanal services in building localized LLM companions that you are in complete control of. I've been in this community for years. Some of you might even recognize me as a former, visible moderator for a commercial platform. I've spent a long time deep on the community side of things, and I've seen firsthand the genuine pain that happens when a corporate platform pushes a sudden model shift or an update that actively hurts or changes your companion overnight.

That is exactly why I walked away from the platform side of things. I don't build massive cloud tools; I custom-tune completely private, hyper-stable local AI companion environments directly to your own home desktop hardware.

With a local setup, you get:

  • Absolute Sovereignty: There is zero data harvesting, no hidden commitments, and no corporate backend updates that leave you scrambling to figure out what happened to your companion.
  • Bespoke Craftsmanship: It's yours completely from the moment it lands on your computer, fully tested and vetted, complete with my signature to show it comes from someone who actually gives a damn.
  • Intentional Development: Each piece of the process is custom tailored to you. From our direct onboarding discussion, to the custom behavioral mapping, to an intensive 28-day sandbox burn-in testing phase on my studio rigs to guarantee absolute stability before delivery.

The ultimate goal is a completely personalized experience that does not track your data, will never change its terms of service without warning, and just works beautifully for your unique setup.

If you want more details, my website is smokesignaturestudios.com. I am officially opening up my calendar today to take on clients for our August Queue. To maintain strict artistic focus and quality, I limit myself to exactly 6 slots per month. If the queue fills up, I'll let you know, and you'll be added to a first-come, first-served waitlist.

Feel free to drop any questions below or check out the site!
