Do I need to seal the inside of a storage bench?

Building a banquette/storage bench for the dining room (still have to add the back and some trim and such). Making it out of Baltic birch ply and will be painting the outside of it like a cabinet. Do I need to finish the inside with anything? Looks do not matter on the inside to me, but I’ve heard it’s generally a good idea to finish both sides of something. If so, with what?

Help me understand full vs half overlay hinges for my situation.

So I’m building a banquette/dining bench and I’m installing hinged lids for storage. It’s my fault, but I’m combining a few different plans and sort of freestyling this one as I go. I’m essentially building a cabinet turned on its side with the face frame serving as the piece that the lid/seat plane will rest on. I bought Blum 120 degree full overlay frameless hinges to accommodate the reveal gap for the lid/seat to rest on but I know realize that was a mistake since it will force the back of the lid too far back in the closed position and won’t fit what I already have built.

Will a half-overlay hinge accommodate what I’ve got here? There’s like a 8mm difference from the inside face of the “cabinet” to the opening of the seat. Or should I go full inset and then add some sort of thick edge banding to the top’s face frame or additional material to the back of the lid to accommodate the gap? I’m struggling to calculate the distance based on Rockler’s instructions which sometimes make no sense to me. I’ve gathered that “half overlay” seems to mean a hinge that’s meant to accommodate two cabinet doors in the same frame.

Also, how much do these hinges adjust in one direction?

Alright what are your favorite specific little spots/landmarks to bike in the metro?

We’re talkin a specific bridge or tunnel or scenic 2 blocks or cool hill or stretch of sidewalk or windy road or neat little tree.

A couple of mine are the little stretch of Minnehaha Creek bike path right after you head west from the Falls and cross over 55. Or the tunnel that goes under the greenway at Bracket Park (at night).

Anybody want more of that heavy intro to Lonely in the Future?

As soon as that bass line started I put my stankiest stank face on but was sad it only lasted like 10 seconds. I also absolutely love the rest of the song but wish we had some more heavier stankier stuff like from the boys. I feel like they’d have a ton of fun with that. Got some glimpses of it on FIOE but I want MORE.

Record store for new releases?

Specifically looking to pick up the new Strokes album on vinyl when it comes out on Friday. I’ve heard of some good recs in general but have never bought a new release before.

SHOOT THE PUCK. WHAT ARE WE DOING?

Oh my god. I am beyond embarrassed we regularly finish games with fewer than 20 shots on net. What the actual fuck is this team thinking? It’s like they actually think the point of the game of hockey is to dump the puck into the zone and maybe possess it but ultimately don’t even **think** about shooting at the other team’s net.

How does MSL defend this shit? We are getting world class goaltending from Dobeš and generally good defending but we can’t buy a chance on goal to save our fucking lives. WE HAVE A CHANCE AT A STANLEY CUP FINAL. WHAT ARE WE DOING? If I see another dump and chase into the opponents zone I’m going to jump off of a bridge.

This fence borders our alley and we get a lot of neighbors (who we love but maybe don’t always want to stop and chat with) and other activity.

Is it possible to bolt a couple 6’ cedar 2x4s or something (similar to the 2x2s there now) to the existing posts and put some cedar fence pickets horizontally on those to create some privacy? It would just be on 3 5’ sections (2 facing the rocks/alley in this picture, and the 1 around the corner by the stump. MAYBE the gate. I’d love to not have to remove the existing posts because they’re set in concrete and in there really deep. They’re solid.

If so, would I remove the existing pickets? Leave them? Really just looking for ideas/advice. Thanks!

I built these shelves with half lap dados cut out and they push to fit, but I cut a couple of the grooves a hair too thick and the shelves sag. Anyone know of some super thin shims or washers or something I can use to hold them up level? I’m thinking like 1/32” or something similar; maybe even thinner and I can stack them. Bonus points if they’re black to match this dyed ash!
