A year later and 90 pounds down! So grateful

I started Zepbound on June 19, 2025, and even with advanced chronic kidney disease, I’ve been able to make my body a place I’m happy to be in.
I have hereditary CKD, and someday I will need a transplant. At nearly 300 pounds, I knew I wouldn’t have been a strong transplant candidate. I had been trying to lose weight for years. My doctor encouraged me for two years to try a GLP-1 medication, but I was scared.
Last May, I finally hit a breaking point. I cried and cried, then made an appointment and asked to try Zepbound. When I picked it up, it sat in my fridge for a week before I worked up the courage to take that first shot.
Within a few hours, something felt different. The constant snack chatter in my brain was quiet. Peaceful. That’s the best way I can describe it.
I was already exercising before starting the medication. I’d lose a few pounds, gain them back, and then gain a little more. The same frustrating cycle over and over again. Then the weight started coming off.
I’ve stayed on the 2.5 mg dose the entire time. I may move up to 5 mg when I see my doctor next week because my weight loss has stalled, although I suspect some of that is muscle gain and body recomposition.
I’m closely monitored by both my kidney specialist and weight-loss doctor. I have labs every month and a DEXA scan every year. This isn’t something I’m doing casually—it’s part of a comprehensive plan for my long-term health.
Today, I have about 20–25 pounds left to reach my goal. I’ve become a gym rat. I lift weights, walk 5Ks, and do water aerobics. I feel stronger, healthier, and more hopeful about my future than I have in years. Do I have lose skin?? Yeah but for me I’ll take that over being almost 300 pounds and at 56 years old - I’m okay with that.
For me, this medication has been life-changing. Buying clothes is fun now! If you’re feeling the way I was—hopeless about your health, your future, or your longevity as you age—it may be worth having a conversation with your doctor. Taking that first step changed my life. ❤️
