Deep into a Smokies tributary

Great day chasing wild fish way up into a tributary in the Smokies. Some beautiful Southern strain Brook Trout, a funky Rainbow and a nice Brown on the day.

Big fish small water

Caught a PB wild brown near the headwaters of a tributary of a tributary. Only fish of the evening.
Really cool to see this tiny, Helene-damaged stream produce some big old fish (for WNC standards).

Quality over quantity

Caught a PB wild brown near the headwaters of a tributary of a tributary. Only fish of the evening - had like 7 fish break off, including a hefty brook trout :(

In the clouds 😶‍🌫️

A beautiful, albeit difficult, day fishing in WNC for Southern Appalachian Brook Trout. Lots of rain lately has flows way up, and my gamble on a 2.5mi vertical hike into an upper tributary did not pay off after arriving to impassable conditions. Was able to get one nicely sized brookie on a lower tributary, ate lunch, and immediately turned around lol. Will have to try again some day for that higher elevation trib!

Natives in the rainforest

Crawling around tiny creeks searching for native Southern-strain Brookies. Just doesn’t get better.

Rainy morning and a new PB

Deep into a tributary of a tributary in search of true Southern strain Appalachian Brook Trout and landed a PB, along with some nice Browns. Lots of intermittent rain so I tied on a foam beetle and it was the ticket.

Lovely morning in the Smokies

Great morning chasing wild fish in the Smokies. Lots of beautiful Southern Appalachian Brook Trout and a pig of a Rainbow. Been a second since I’ve heard drag peel off while bluelining!

Chasing natives at 5500’

Great day pursuing wild native Southern Appalachian Brook Trout. Awesome variation in appearance for all being caught within a mile or so of eachother. All caught on dries. Tough to beat and forever grateful this is in my backyard.
