Salem, Ohio: ISO Old Establishments

tl;dr: I’m looking for establishments (restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries, shops, etc) in Salem, Ohio that have been open / operating in some capacity since the 1950’s.

The longer version: I’m from NYC and going on a roadtrip through Ohio this summer. My grandmother was born in Brooklyn, but moved with her family to Salem, Ohio when she was 16, around 1948. She stayed there for a little over a decade before moving back to NYC.

I’m going to drive around Salem for an afternoon and check out a few of the addresses she gave me, but I would love to visit any businesses that may still exist from her time there. I know businesses have probably changed hands since then, but even just being able to go inside a building she may have once visited in her youth would be cool.

If anyone has any names or ideas, I would love to hear them! Thanks.

Events for groups of adults?

I’m looking for events / activities / things to do (outside of eating and drinking) for a group of adults on Sunday the 12th. I see Tiny Arts Supply is hosting a makers market and a crafting workshop - I’m looking for other events like that! If anyone has any suggestions, please leave a comment. :)

A bit of context:
My wife and I are taking our parents around the neighborhood for the day. My parents are from here but moved out a long time ago: they know the classics (ex: Gottscheer) and appreciate seeing the new (ex: Hellbender). I’m trying to get a mix of both for the day. They are all in their 60’s, and we plan to spend a full day (brunch, activity, bar, dinner, cake & coffee at home). The only thing I’m missing is some kind of “activity” or two to break up all the eating and drinking!

European National Park: Saxon Switzerland (Germany)

I just returned from a quick trip to Europe, mostly exploring Prague and Vienna, but was able to take a 1/2 day trip to Saxon Switzerland National Park. This is my first German national park, and although I saw only a small portion, it was lovely! Lots more shade than I expected. We did just a few short “hikes” to the most popular viewpoints.
