Lighting up evergreens

I have these sunvie 3w spotlights to work with. I was trying to light up the evergreens tree line in the backyard. To get the whole tree lit up I see I've to pull the light back from the tree, so much that it's in the grass now. Not good. What am I doing wrong? Is it the wrong light for these trees (my guess)? Should I try icing the light under the canopy, next to the trunk?

Photo 1 is closer to the tree, 2 is pulled back into the lawn.

Triclopyr and surfactant?

Have the side yard, setting sun on the west side, very less light compared to the yard beyond the fence, still sunny.

I am getting these weeds (creeping charlie, wild violet, oxalis?). Do I keep doing speed zone but with surfactant as the smaller ones are waxy and biting stays.

Cool season NW Chicago.
