To everyone in the thread accusing me or trying to flip the blame: let’s look at the objective facts of what this sitter actually did. This isn't a minor misunderstanding; it is a clear-cut case of property damage, theft, and sheer incompetence.
The Sitter's Obvious Flaws & Misconduct:
Theft & Absurd Excuses: He completely depleted my basic household consumables and literally stole brand-new salt and pepper grinders. His actual excuse for wiping out my entire supply of toilet paper and leaving me coming home to absolutely zilch? He claimed he used it all for cleaning.
Property Damage & Financial Liability: He catastrophically overloaded my washing machine to the point of breaking it beyond repair. I now have to buy an entirely new appliance because of his sheer negligence.
Blatant Dishonesty: Instead of owning up to his mistakes, he constantly lied to cover his tracks. He blamed the broken machine on it getting "stuck" (flatly disproven by a professional technician) and made up a bizarre excuse about water pressure to get out of cleaning the shower—yet apparently thought using rolls of toilet paper to "clean" was perfectly logical.
Zero Respect for My Home: A basic tenet of house-sitting is leaving a property in the condition you found it. Leaving a home dirty, empty of essentials, and with ruined major appliances is completely unacceptable.

I was incredibly generous to this individual, and his lack of maturity and respect is deeply disappointing. I have already flagged his behavior and the stolen grinders in his review so other hosts are warned. On reflection, I deeply regret overlooking his lack of established history and now I would never choose a man or someone young. (only two references” and one review). If you think this behavior is normal or acceptable from a trusted sitter, you have incredibly low standards.

To clarify for those missing the point: I am not upset about a sitter using standard consumables. That is expected. What I am furious about is the total disregard shown by leaving me with absolutely nothing upon my arrival.

Hi this was my first time on the site and booked a Cat sitter last minute. Cat was well looked after which was my main priority. But when I returned my apartment was completely depleted of my consumables no toilet paper left, salt and pepper grinders gone (just purchased).

Washing machine broken due to overloading. His “excuse” was the machine got “stuck” I came back to find I couldn’t open the door needed it fixed as I had no clean sheets or towels Technician confirmed it broke due to overloading Now it will cost the same to repair as a new one? Who covers this. Obviously the sitter is not as he lied and is clearly irresponsible. Shower not cleaned he made some excuse about water pressure. I thought they are supposed to leave your place in the exact state they found it. Is this normal behaviour?
