Help with Echo Knight Warlock build?

Hello, I haven't had the chance to really play or follow DnD for a few years so I'm pretty out of the loop.

My DM for the campaign I will be playing in is starting us at level 5, and will be doing a homebrew setting where we can basically play whatever we want. He said to try and make some decent characters because he plans on it being a pretty dangerous campaign that will hopefully last a long while.

I saw the Echo knight and it looked really fun, and then was like... this seems good with polearm master right? I know the echo doesn't trigger the attack itself but its still very good area denial. Then I realized I could just also pick a bugbear these days (holy moly they added a lot of playable races) and get an extra 5 feet of range and lots of other goodies.

And then I realized... wait cant I just pick like.... hexblade or really any warlock subclass and get repelling blast / warcaster once I get a single level?

I mean obviously this is pretty decent, at least for this level, and I'm sure I'm far from the first person to do this, but what the class look like anywhere after that? What should the level split be overall, and does this actually work as well as I think it does?

Also, not really sure of the stat spread I should be looking at. Like I could pretty much just go full dex/cha if I wanted to go hexblade, but I'm honestly really not sure and my brain is already fried from reading like 2000 new things that have come out in the last few years lol.

Any tips, builds, or advice would be amazing!
