I run dumbphone.fr and test these devices. Spent a month with the Balance Phone, figured the sub should know what actually changes.
It's a Samsung A16 running Balance OS. The key difference from app blockers: the restrictions aren't added on top of Android. They're baked into the OS itself using MDM architecture (the same tech enterprises use, but repurposed). Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, gaming, gambling, porn; nothing installable, no toggle, no developer mode, no factory reset workaround. The blocklist checks itself continuously.
The logic is clean too. Apps with endpoints (banking, maps, messaging) work fine. Apps designed around infinite scroll don't exist on the device.

Cours individuel - projets IA
Salut, je suis sur Nancy et je me suis dit que ça pouvait intéresser quelqu’un ici.
Je propose des cours particuliers en présentiel pour les gens en découverte totale : tu n’as jamais touché à tout ça, tu entends parler de Claude, d’IA, d’agents… mais tu vois pas trop ce que c’est concrètement.
Ce qu’on fait ensemble en 2h :
- Tu repars avec un vrai site en ligne sur ton nom de domaine
- Tu comprends ce qu’est un agent IA et comment lui déléguer des tâches répétitives
- Tu vois comment automatiser des trucs concrets : posts réseaux sociaux, contenu…
- Tu découvres Claude Code, Vercel et Supabase, des outils puissants pour lancer un projet vite
Pas besoin de savoir coder. Juste ton laptop et ta curiosité.

Quick update on dumbphone.fr
Hey again,
A couple of months ago I posted here about dumbphone.fr, à French site I run on dumbphones. Got useful feedback from this community back then, so figured I’d share what’s changed since.
A few updates:
- Full visual redesign. The previous one was starting to feel cluttered, the new one breathes more. Love the new article page UI
- A simple filter on the main dumbphones page, so you can narrow down by what actually matters
- New page dedicated to parents. A lot of questions weren’t really about specs, more like “how do I navigate this with my kid”. Felt like it deserved its own space.
- The free guide got rewritten from scratch. The first version leaned too tech-curious-adult. The new one tries to speak to the whole household: parents + teens
- Wrote a piece on the 2G/3G shutdown in France and what it actually means for dumbphone users here, since a lot of people are confused about which phones will still work in 2026 and beyond.
- Also covered which dumbphones still let you use WhatsApp (KaiOS, hybrid devices, etc.), since that’s probably the #1 question I get from French readers who want to go dumb but can’t fully cut WhatsApp because of family or work.
- Maintaining a list of dumbphones actually compatible with French carriers, which sounds basic but is genuinely a mess to figure out otherwise.
- And the reviews keep piling up :) Hard to stop once you start.
Same ask as last time: if something feels off, missing, or just plain wrong, I’d rather hear it than not.
