Today, we’d like to share an unconventional case of abnormal vibration. This took place at a cement plant in Malaysia, where our customer used our HA3 acoustic camera to inspect their conveyor system – a very unconventional application. Although the conveyor generates considerable noise under normal operation, we have verified that when lubrication failure or abnormal wear occur inside, specific ultrasonic signals are produced. By analyzing the signal’s kurtosis, spectral dissimilarity, and stationarity to calculate noise-signal features, we have enabled abnormal wear detection under specific acoustic fingerprint conditions. Here is a video from the site. The user reported that the rapid inspection capability of the acoustic camera was beyond their expectations.
