Trying to get into nuclear

For years i've been fascinated by nuclear power, but unfortunately where I live (southern connecticut) theres almost no way at all to get into the nuclear industry, because it practically does not exist here. So for a while I've been considering enlisting in the NNPP to get my 6 years and get a Civilian nuclear job afterwards
I have a passion for learning new things and im willing to commit myself to a long haul in order to secure a better happier future, I know that the NNPP gets you a large sum of education in nuclear power and thats my main goal for it, aswell as other benefits like the GI Bill, etc.
currently, I do not have my life together and ive been stagnant, ive gotten out of shape and I need momentum and direction (19m), is it worth it to go down this path for me? what should I know, and should I look elsewhere? college isnt really an option for me as I dont want to put debt on my parents
