Best bunkhouse model travel trailer for full time living with 2 giant dogs and 2 kids?
Hello! I currently have a 2023 Hideout which has been a “fun” learning experience but definitely not something I’d want to full time in. I’m looking to upgrade as I plan to go full time RVing while I’m in grad school in the PNW. It would be ~3 years (we may just do one year FT and then move into a house for the more time intensive final 2 years). I have kids who would be 8 and 12 at the time we’d depart, and two 120+ lb dogs. The kids and dogs are used to RV camping for up to 3 weeks at a time but our floor plan is certainly not ideal for long term.
I’m looking for reliability first and foremost, as ours is essentially an expensive trash heap and there has been one major issue after another. We didn’t have a working fridge for the first 2 years.
We currently have a bunkhouse model and love having the private space for each kid, so that would definitely be a requirement for the next one as well.
We need a more comfortable “living room” area with decent chairs for school work and more lounging space for lots of long rainy days, so we’d likely need slides. Loathe the dinette.
We do boondock for a week or so at a time and prefer that over resort style camping. Of course we’ll do some time with hookups especially during hot or cold weather but don’t want to be limited to requiring hookups every night.
Budget isn’t a major concern; I’ll be purchasing a used one when I am ready (luckily I’m in a great area for RV purchasing as people frequently move or PCS out of state and don’t want to haul it with them) and I prioritize my comfort at this stage in my life.
