How much does trailer aerodynamics affect towing efficiency?

I towed my trailer and another very aerodynamic one on the exact same route and compared how many mi/kWh I got with each.

Is owning a travel trailer always this stressful? Starting to wonder if this life is for me...

Genuine question for experienced owners.

I bought a used 2016 StarCraft 17SB hybrid travel trailer about 3 weeks ago for $8500, and I feel like I've spent more time fixing and worrying than actually enjoying it put into $4000 into it to make sure it was good to go water intrusion wise.

So far I've dealt with:

- Rebuilt bunk door and a full exterior reseal before I even picked it up.

- New tires and bearing service.

- Learning how to winterize/dewinterize without messing something up.

- Plumbing confusion with low-point drains.

- Grey tank sensor doesn't work.

- Grey tank filled up way faster than I expected and backed up into the kitchen sink.

- Shower barely drains, even when the grey tank isn't obviously full.

- Toilet started leaking around the base after adding a little water back into the black tank.

- Constant worry about black tanks, grey tanks, dumping, sanitizing, flushing, etc.

I rented trailers for years before buying one and honestly... it felt so much less stressful. Pick it up, enjoy the weekend, return it.

Financially it almost seems cheaper too once you factor in repairs, maintenance, storage, insurance, and all the little things you end up buying.

I'm not trying to complain—I genuinely want to know if this is just the steep learning curve for first-time owners, or if some trailers are just constant projects.

Does it eventually become second nature where you just hook up and go camping? Or are you always fixing something?

Starting to wonder if ownership just isn't for me.

Mountian towing advice

I'm wanting to go from NE Florida to the top of kentucky without swinging wide through Alabama so I would be actually going to the mountains in Tennessee. I have experience Towing but I'm not quite certain my setup will perform and I'm looking for feedback. Below is as much details of my setup as I can possibly give.

2020 silverado wt single cab long bed

4.3L with 6 speed 6L80

Replaced trans thermostat w thermal bypass valve

Gvwr 6800lbs

Trailer loaded is 3200lbs

Trailer is 1/2" lower in front than the rear

Blue Ox weight distribution hitch

2200 max payload

1300 actual payload

Tow haul mode on

60mph in 5th gear at 1900 rpm on level

Under trucked?

After I took the picture I dropped the hitch two notches so now the trailer is level. I have the WDH and sway control, otherwise my truck is stock. 60-65 is okay but I wouldn’t feel comfortable anymore than that, and I doubt I could take it on the freeway because of semi suck. What do you guys think? I just pulled it 6 hours no problem just looking to see your guys opinion.

Truck shaking when towing over 60 mph.

Appears there is a balance issue with my trailer. Came out of now where while towing 4 hours away from our home. Do you take the tires off and take them to a tire specific shop or do you take your trailer in to a RV shop to address? Also, appears to not be an issue with bearings.

Happy 4th everyone!

First trip with new Trailer! It's a Gulfstream 150RD Trailboss. Pairs well with the Colorado Trailboss!

Had a local RV dealer set up my WDH and so far really feels better. Trying to keep my tongue weight low and never travel filled with water. 2023 Lexus GX and 2020 No Boundaries 19.8 paired with husky centerline TS WDH.

This teardrop has everything but the kitchen sink!

Wait: It has that, too! Plus a second pull-out bed!

Got er Done

Replaced the awning material on my 2011 Freedom Express. Was a fairly easy task with the help of my daughter who helped me slide the new one on. The old one was the original and was starting to rip above the door and was getting brittle. Hopefully this one will last. It was only $130CAD from Amazon on Prime days a couple weeks ago. Gotta keep these old trailers alive boys.

Ez Clip MaxAir fan vent

This is how my 2026 Aurora 26ath was delivered to me. I inspected it on pick-up and the tech said to just push the pin through. Google tells me to trim the sealant off. Has anyone dealt with this before? Even if I trim it the vent I think will sit on the sealant.

Why is the ball not going all the way into the coupler?

Do I need to raise the ball assembly up higher on the hitch mount? This is our first time attempting a tow and cannot even get through step 1! This is a Husky Center Line weight distribution hitch attempting to hook to a Forest River 174bhle. Any tips appreciated!!

What is this?

Took our camper out and after getting it set up noticed these above the slide out panel. Anyone have any idea what this is and what caused it?

Camping in 100 degree heat

Bought this Salem 30KQBSS a year and a half ago. Finally got it out camping for the first time this week. Dual AC units were perfect at keeping the interior at 75 degrees F.

Everything worked great when I used it sitting on a property for the weekends, but in those three days my water heater switch melted and my freshwater gauges stopped working, I am not new to RV ownership and always keep a set of tools in my truck.

Wet Bath: Best Practices Please

Hello camping friends. We are currently without a trailer - but anxious to have one again. We're shopping - and we have very specific things we want in a trailer, like most of you. One "disagreement" my wife and I have is that I'd be willing to do a Wet Bath, but it's a hard-no for my wife. The issue is that the trailers we're looking at are smallish, so one particular trailer we both like for the layout and specs - has a Wet Bath. I cannot get her to even consider it. The issue is "where do I put my clothes, or even a dry towel". So I'm curious, can some of you share your best practices for how you make the most of it? For example, if the bed is in the back (as it is in this particular trailer), I can imagine hanging a curtain in the front of the bathroom door, then hanging towels or clothes OUTSIDE The door to grab. So let me know your thoughts, and also, if any of you REGRET having one and wish you didn't, I'd like to know. Thank you!
