Got er Done

Replaced the awning material on my 2011 Freedom Express. Was a fairly easy task with the help of my daughter who helped me slide the new one on. The old one was the original and was starting to rip above the door and was getting brittle. Hopefully this one will last. It was only $130CAD from Amazon on Prime days a couple weeks ago. Gotta keep these old trailers alive boys.

Have to unplug.

Last couple days I’ve had to unplug the firestick power to get it to reset, otherwise the Samsung tv doesn’t recognize it. Any way around this? I got the firestick last year.

I think I got Swindled.

My wife and I ate at Murphys in OQC yesterday. It was busy as usual. Waitress came and took our order. Poutine, chicken caesar salad and flatbread. Brought the food and didn’t see her again until she gave us the bill. Someone else came and cleaned the table while we waited for the bill. Bill came….$93 for the food. It’s expensive but we knew that when we ordered. Waitress hands me the machine and I type in an $8 tip to round it to roughly $100. I was about to tap my phone and she chimes in….oh it’s mandatory to leave a 15% tip in Quebec. She takes the machine and deletes my $8 tip. We were jovial with each other and I said “you didn’t even bring me a refill on my pop”. She said she was busy. Ended up giving her the 15% because she said it was mandatory but some googling later I learned that was apparently a lie. So ended up paying $107 for a poutine, salad and a flatbread. Holy snapping assholes Batman thats a lot of money for what we received in return. Needless to say it was lesson learned and we won’t eat there again.

What in the world are these?

I studied those white things that look something like trains that seems to be on tracks tapering into the water at Montmorancy falls. Couldn’t come up with anything that made sense to me. Could someone enlighten me.

Edit. Now that I know what they are I’m sorta happy that it failed. It’s such a beautiful area and waterfalls it seems like it would be a shame to place something man made like this near it. I don’t think it would fit into the nature.

In The Walmart Bin

Found this in the Walmart HotWheels dump bin. Not a bad find for $1.99.

New Awning Time

Could someone confirm the make of my awning? All the sticker information on the tube is worn off. Going to put on a new awning due to this OEM one starting to rip and showing signs of its age. 2011 Freedom Express.

Why would I need Starlink business?

I have SL at home but also have a small business with a separate location. Looking at the SL site, the business options are crazy expensive. Capped at 50GB for $75 a month which is what I’m paying at home for unlimited. Couldn’t I just get SL hardware and set it up as a new customer in the business name and address?…..set it up as residential. I don’t want the business linked to my personal SL so a mini won’t cut it.

Walmart Canada

It seems like Walmart no longer carries 1:24 M2’s here in Canada. Been that way for a while now. My wife says that’s a good thing due to me having a decent collection already. I’ve checked several Walmarts around but nothing. They seem to still carry the M2 1:64’s. Wonder why they no longer carry the 1:24’s? Weird.

Anyone Else With This Safety Issue?

Have the Milwaukee M18 circular saw model 2834-20. Hardly used it. Today the guard wouldn’t spring return. Saw that the return spring was missing?! Saw was never abused and kept out of harms way. Apparently the design makes it seem like the spring can just fall out…..which it did. We looked everywhere on the ground for it but no go. Can’t find the replacement online either. Should be a safety recall!!!! Got the saw at Home Depot last year. Has this happened to anyone else? Don’t know what to do from here.

So Far

Our 2017 CRV Touring celebrates reaching 200k klms today. There were 107k on it when we got it three years ago. A couple weeks ago I spent $3000CAD getting the fuel injectors and spark plugs replaced along with valve adjustment. There were absolutely no symptoms. Gas mileage was great, it always started without hesitation, purred like new. Dash stated there was an emission problem. Code reader said misfire on cylinder four. Mother Honda diagnosed the fuel injectors issue as these engines are known for that. Valves were due for adjustment. Plugs were worn out. Other than that the vehicle has been flawless. Still in excellent condition. No rust. Always great on fuel, which is important these days. You can see the fuel economy in the pic. Raise your glasses ladies and gentlemen, here’s to another 200k.

Shutting Off

Just turned my AC on for the first time this season. The house is cooled down but the furnace keeps cycling on/off every few minutes. What’s that about. I can’t remember that happening last year.

You Guys Packin Heat?

My install guy was saying and showing me how to turn the heat off for the dish. He recommended leaving it off till fall because it could come on needlessly on a cool night in the shoulder seasons and waste energy. I have it set to off and have a reminder in my iPhone to turn it on around mid October. Is this what the masses are doing or just leaving it on….set it and forget it. I live in Canada.

Edit: conclusion from the comments: Turn it off. Turn it on. Should be on all the time. Should always be off. There’s no need for it to be on. Should always be on to boost the signal.

Oh oh!

This morning my speed has dropped substantially from an average of 90mbps to around 15mbps. App says dish is aligned with no obstructions. Paying for the 100 package. Around four days ago I eliminated the Starlink router and used my own. Up to today the speeds have been impressive everywhere around the house. Now this. Any ideas? I’ve had it installed for about a week and a half now.

Edit: seems to just be my iPad pro thats lagging. My iPhone is getting the normal speeds (currently around the 90mbps). Meanwhile my iPad is getting 16 mbps. Both using the Starlink app. Weird

She’s all done boys!

Got the dish installed a couple days ago. Told the installer I would take care of the wiring. Installers aren’t known to put pride in workmanship. Today was a rain day so I tidied it up. One thing I didn’t care for was the way the wire plugs into the back of the SL router. The connection is stressed because it has to bend immediately 90°. Looks like a design flaw. I suppose if it was sitting on a table it would be fine but in that case the router is susceptible to continuously falling over due to the rigidity of the wire. Anyways….nice to get closure on project Starlink. Finally boobies in 4k. Giggity.

Directly to my Router

I’m three days new to Starlink. I watched a YT video of a guy saying you no longer need the router that comes with the Starlink Gen 3 standard 4 kit. You can simply just plug in your own router and not use the Starlink one. Anyone amongst ye do this? Does the Starlink app still show all the info that it would if using the SL router? My own router can broadcast the distance compared to the SL one…….so if I didn’t need the SL one, the install would look neater. Thoughts and prayers?

What is it?

Everyone calls Starlink a dish but technically it’s no longer a dish. The definition of a dish according to google is “a concave, circular reflector used to receive satellite signals”. The original SL’s were round and concaved, so then it was a dish. What’s the new style square SL thing on the roof called?….just Starlink? I’m going with Starlink.

Valve adjustment?

My 2017 CRV is currently at the local dealership getting the fuel injectors done. The dealership says the valves need adjustment at 170k klms. Im currently at 198k klms. Also need new plugs. I had installed cheap Amazon plugs and they were all misfiring according to the OBD reader. I don’t recall a car engine needing valves adjusted on modern engines anymore. Are they just upselling me or is it a thing? FWIW the car was going into limp mode.

Day 17

Ladies and gentlemen it gives me great pleasure to announce that on the 17th day I received an email stating my Starlink has been shipped. Feeling warm and fuzzy again.
