Fire TV Remote refuses to control TV despite trying everything

Hi there,

I got a Fire TV Stick 4k Plus a couple of weeks ago to replace our old laggy one. And whilst its quick, looks great and works better, I can not get the remote to sync to the tv so that I can adjust volume, change input or turn off/on the tv.

I've got a 2024 Panasonic TB-50W60AEY which has CEC enabled. I'm able to control the Fire TV stick with my Panasonic TV remote (this is how we controlled the last tv stick as we lost the original remote), but this means I haven't got the convinience of quickly loading netflix, disney+ etc or using voice control.

I've filtered through all the IR profile options, and even looked for others, gone through the "change TV" option in settings, changed the batteries in the Fire TV remote, connected the stick with the app (which allows me to adjust volume but I press +volume once and it keeps going without stopping), reset to factory settings, unplugged and plugged in again. Nothing is working.

The Fire TV remote does everything else - navigates well, voice control works, shortcuts work etc but does not want to control the TV.

With a newer TV and a newer Fire TV stick, I refuse to believe that my TV just doesn't enable these settings.

Any advice appreciated!

How to use without base remote?

Heyo, I have a Insignia Fire TV from 2020. As of writing this, I have moved and still haven't seen my remote (was lost when I lended it to family a bit ago). I would like to use the base menu, but I have to resort to using an external streaming device and the one internal button (turning the volume up/down should not take 2 minutes to do.)

I do believe I possess a TV remote of the same manufacturer but it is not specifically Fire TV-branded. Would that work, or am I SoL?

my firetv keeps turning itself off so alexa can lead me through a guided meditation. how do i turn this off?

it’s like a deep breathing exercise with a circle in the middle of the screen that lasts for a few minutes. or she reminds me to drink water without the screen being on. it’s so creepy and i want it to stop but can’t find it in the settings or online.

How to turn on my Fire TV so it starts using HDMI1 instead of the default Home page?

I recently bought a Fire TV that I use exclusively as a computer monitor. I'm one of those people who likes to turn my monitor off at night and turn it back on in the morning. Turning it off is easy: using the remote, I hold down the power button until it turns off. Turning it back on again, requires a process:

  1. Press the power button on the remote and wait for the Prime Video home page to appear.
  2. Press the menu button on the remote.
  3. Press Up twice to get to the Input option, and select that to get the Input options
  4. Press Up again and then the center button to select HDMI1.

Is there any way to set it so I can just press the power button to turn on the monitor and automatically have it set to HDMI1?

Fire Stick not working with HDMI Splitter

**EDIT** I called it an HDMI Splitter in the title but I think the correct term is an HDMI Switch.

Hello. I have looked at numerous posts here regarding my issue mentioned in the subject, so I'm going to try and tell you what I've done thus far.

We bought an HDMI splitter for our TV because our TV only has 2 HDMI inputs and we need 3. We started having issues immediately. Our issues are that 1.) the Fire Stick won't turn on when you press any of the buttons on the remote (and it used to..). I have to "power cycle" the fire stick by unplugging it from the power source and plug it back in and it comes on. However, even when I do that, it leads to the second issue which is 2.) even after being on, it'll stop working. It's like it shuts off, like it feels it's not being used so it goes to sleep.

After reading a few posts here, we bought a DIFFERENT HDMI splitter that specifically supported HDCP 2.2. I had read that maybe that was the problem. We got that today and tried it and "whomp whomp", still doesn't work.

The Fire Stick is plugged into it's own power source using the supplied power brick, as I've also seen that could be an issue.

Now I'm at a loss. Not sure what else to do. Anyone got any advice here?

What is the best way to load a custom launcher on a sealed 1st gen 4k firestick?

Found a 1st gen 4k firestick that I bought a few years ago and never set up. I want to set it up for my elderly parents but wanted to set a custom launcher on boot. Is there anyway to still do this if I let it update to the latest firmware or possibly to install a specific firmware?

Echo Show can’t install certain apps

I’ve run into an issue in the Fire TV App Store where an app shows as not compatible and unavailable for download.

The above screenshot shows the FOX One app, which is required now that the Fox Sports app is no longer supported. But now I can’t download the replacement.

I’ve had this issue with at least one other app before (Paramount +).

Would love to know if anyone has dealt with this issue.

Device is an Echo Show 21

New HiSense Fire TV can’t get past this

I just bought this Hisense fire tv (my second of the day but that was another headache) and have been trying for two hours to get past this. Factory resets, router resets, tried a hotspot everything I can find. Any help would be appreciated. I just want to watch something.

Minecraft fire tv edition.

For people that have sideloaded minecraft 1.16 fire tv edition and are unable to open it due to it saying you do not own this app.

Even though the game has been delisted and removed from the app store it somehow let me buy it.

Here is the link I used on my phone:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mojang-Minecraft/dp/B00992CF6W?dplnkId=fc4bfcfe-1a13-4119-9bd0-71ff73220860

Make sure you are signed into amazon on your browser and have a default payment system setup and click buy it charged my account around £5.50 and it was added to my app library and transaction history.

After doing this open your fire tv and sync purchases in the settings and that should work.

If you are also struggling to find the minecraft 1.16 version on internet archive, bearman3600 has kindly added it to his website.

Fire Cube lagging

Hi All,

I have a house full of Firesticks and a Fire Cube in my main family room. For some reason, my Fire Cube keeps lagging while using certain apps and is essentially becoming unwatchable. It senate worst on HBOMax, Disney+\Hulu, and AppleTV. No real issues in YouTubeTV or Netflix.

It’s getting to the point where I need to buy a new unit, but I may just switch to another device type to see if that helps (I’ve heard AppleTV and Nvidia Shield are better). I’ve tired unplugging it to reset, and my WiFi signal is very strong (I’ve tried it on both of my networks).

Any suggestions on how to fix this before I replace my Fire Cube?
Thanks!

Moved and can’t get my fire stick to work

I have an older tv with no remote and my fire stick also has no remote. I did something to get it to work three years ago when I last moved, but am forgetting how I got the device connected to wifi to make the remote in the phone work and nothing I’m finding online is helping me remember. Anyone have any quick solutions?

Have to unplug.

Last couple days I’ve had to unplug the firestick power to get it to reset, otherwise the Samsung tv doesn’t recognize it. Any way around this? I got the firestick last year.

HDMI CEC re-enabled after every update on Fire Cube

I disabled HDMI CEC on my Fire Cube, which goes to an AV Receiver then my TV, as when it was enabled, it liked to take over the connection and set inputs to it more than other devices that use it. No big deal, I disabled HDMI CEC which solves the problem.
However, it gets enabled again every time it updates. The rest of the household isn't as savvy with TV equipment as me, they just know how to set the receiver and TV to the right inputs for what they are doing.
Last night it updated and took over the screen while my partner was playing an online multiplayer game.

Is there any solution to this, or is it just what they do? I've been a bit let down by the Fire Cube, it also wouldn't let me watch Spider Noir in B&W on Prime, when their own Cube should be one of the places Prime works best. I saw that was a widespread issue across many Fire devices.

I did buy an adapter that's supposed to strip CEC from the connection, which is $25 I shouldn't need to spend. I'm waiting on it now, but a proper solution would be a lot better! I've already checked with my receiver's setting and I can't disable CEC per-input on its side, I can just turn it on/off altogether, and I can't use my ARC audio from my TV with it off. It expects you to enable/disable in the devices that are connected, which makes sense.

Apple TV won’t load

Is anyone else having issues with AppleTv?

I restarted, deleted cache/data, deleted the app, factory restart and nothing. I eventually reached out to Amazon and they sent me a new device (just the stick itself, not the wires and remote) and it’s STILL having the same issue. I don’t have this issue with the other fire sticks in my home. I’m getting frustrated because I am watching a lot of shows on there right now and the stick that doesn’t work is in my living room.
