To rebuild it or replace it.

Given the price of new RVs I've been thinking to do some serious repairs rebuilds on my 5th wheel

It's an 07 grande junction 35tms.

Very solid and was the topline of

the Thor lineup back in its day.

Things it needs.

New slide seals, will do next year. And the suspension needs replacing. Again a spring project.

The big thing is replacing the roof. Went up this year to do repairs and patch work and found a number of soft spots. Resealed it all but the roof is going to need to be replaced in the next couple of years.

I live in Canada. And its Going to cost me at least a 100 grand to replace the trailer with something comparable. Plus the freaking payments. I'm 60 btw.

Or I can dump 15 grand into this one over the next 3 years and run it until I'm done my camping life.

2 grand to replace the 3 slide seals

2 grand in suspension work

8 to 9 grand to replace the roof

3 grand to refinish the exterior and new decals. (Not a needed but more a want).

Everything else is great on the trailer. Just showing age and milage.

What would you all do?

30 amp or 50 amp surge protector

My 5th wheel is 50 amp. Most places we camp are 30 amp but we do occasionally wind up with a 50 amp service. My question is do I need to have 2 different surge protectors, or can I run a single 50 amp and use a 30 amp to 50 amp dog bone to it.

Replacing Landing Gear 07 Dutchman Grand Junction

Ok changing Landing gear on a normal 5th wheel is a fairly simple operation.

I have to change both legs. But they are on the outside of the frame uprights behind a steel plate wall. And the other side is the skin of the trailer. There is no access persay.

Any RV techs encountered this set up?

There is just a small hole on each side in the plating for the cross bar to go through.

The only way I can possibly think to access these is to remove the battery cabinet curb side, and the propane cabinet on the Road Side.

Or cut out the steel plate work, which is quite thick and I believe it's structural.

I had a Mobile RV tech come out and look at it and he said he wasn't. Touching it.

Sorry don't have a pic right now. As I'm out of town working.

Trailer lift Kit

So I bought an older 07 Grand Junction 35TMS last summer.

This trailer. Sits lower than my previous one and rides hitch high.

I found a RV lift kit made here in Canada using blocks.

I'm going to lift the trailer 3" which will correct my issue.

The pin box is at its highest setting and the pullrite is not adjustable.

The pic is of my old truck with a standard non slider hitch. (This is when I picked up the trailer). Upgraded to a pullrite that sat even higher.

Should I have any concerns about using the lift blocks?

Oh Trailer GVW is 15,500 and 40 feet long if that helps.

Timbrens or Air Bags

Tow vehicle, 24 Ram 3500 SRW 6.7 HO. Pullrite autoslide with Moreride box. Payload 4080lbs hitch is about 200lbs

Trailer 2007 Grande Junction 35 tms (40 ft couples trailer)

GVW 15,500. Hitch loaded approx 2900 lbs.

As an older 5th wheel it does ride hitch high. But will be adding a 3" lift this fall to the trailer.

Question is ride and stability. I've generally ran air bags in the past, expensive for a full kit and a PIA to install all the components.

Timbrens easy installation. Set and forget. About 1/3rd the price of a bag kit.

I'm not needing to increase pay load but ride stability and comfort.

Would like to hear some real world experiences and opinions.

Thanks in advance.

Combine Galley and Washer tanks

So my 5th wheel has washer/ dryer prep with its own tank. I was wondering if there would be a fairly simple way of combining my galley tank and the washer tank to increase grey capacity.

My belly pan is fully sealed and all the valves are internal in the belly pan.

Just wondering if anyone has attempted this.

Looking for Camp sites

Hi Gang. I'm new to the area of AB. What are some decent camp sites in the area.

I have a 40ft 5th wheel and would at least like to have a power hook up and trees. No sardine can camping.

TIA

Why new?

I see sooo many FIRST time RV owners buying brand new off the lots. Why? Your first trailer is never the right trailer. Either growing families or going back to a couples trailer.

Oh and don't forget onefootitis.

I'm 60 now I've owned 4 RVs in the 30 years since we left the tent behind. My 3rd 5th wheel was supposed to be our forever trailer. Yes I bought it used. Took 3 yrs of looking to find it. I had it for 19 yrs. Put thousands of miles on it dragging it and the family all over Canada and the US.

I'm on my 4th RV as of last year. Again bought a used trailer. I have never bought new.

I worked as a service advisor for a very high volume dealership (pre COVID and they were already crap). There is no way I would buy a new RV.

I should say probably half the RVs that came in were practically unfinished. We had to order the components in to finish the trailers on the lot. Many sold with known issues. That "Take it now. Enjoy the season, bring it back in the fall with a list of the issues and we will fix it over the winter" speech. What a farce that was.

Just finished it late last summer. Well. 99% at least. Just need to swap out the heater blower.

I just don't have the time or space for it with my other hobbies and work schedule. Just getting it out of storage and going to do a good clean on her and put it up for sale.

Going to miss this car.
