Engagement Survey Results

Engagement Survey Results

It's that time of year again! WGU will show us the results of the engagement survey and somehow the numbers don’t line up. They will show a positive trend overall but within individual departments, rates tend to show lower. WGU will say they care about the things that make us unhappy then pick 5 things that do not actually effect anything to change. The best way to change the narrative and actually have a say more than filling out an anonymous is to band together to form a union. We want WGU to be the workplace we know it can be, so help us make it that way. Sign this petition to show your support for the union! https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/wgu-employees-we-are-organizing?source=direct_link&

Summits

With the start of the new fiscal year, WGU is now planning its yearly Summits. Summits are now required for all employees whose departments are having one. You can submit an accommodation request to either have a flexible schedule or to be exempt from the Summit. We have been hearing that WGU is denying more requests than they are approving. We would appreciate you all sharing information with us if you submitted a request, and if it was approved or denied. All data shared will be kept confidential. This data will be used for future negotiations with WGU. If you know someone who has submitted a request, we would appreciate you sending this post their way so that we can try to assist them. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScezzdAljDyXgQLKWlDvbSmuwxbIutSSPPKRscRLJmALr_BVw/viewform?usp=header

If you have submitted an accommodation request and have been denied, here are resources you can try:

  • Contact your direct leader or higher in the chain within your own department. They may be able to intervene with P&T to get your requests approved.
  • Request a WRITTEN reason for the denial of your accommodation.
  • Work with ERG leaders to determine if they have a better path for approval.
  • If you are a caregiver who takes care of someone who has a disability, look into reporting it to your local EEOC to see if they can assist you.

Let's change the trajectory of WGU together

In today’s town hall, our president cited studies about how remote work is inherently bad for employee mental health. He did not cite sources.

We acknowledge that some workers benefit from in-person work.

We also acknowledge that it is unfair to paint all workers with the same broad brush. We have done our own research, which demonstrates that there is more nuance to this discussion than what was shared.

Our research: https://www.coworkingcafe.com/blog/remote-work-well-being-survey-2026/

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/380383329_REMOTE_WORK_AND_PSYCHOLOGICAL_WELL-BEING_EXPLORING_THE_IMPACT_ON_EMPLOYEE_WELL-BEING_JOB_SATISFACTION_AND_WORK-LIFE_BALANCE

After making this claim, we were given a one-time bonus. As you know, bonuses rarely come from the goodness of an employer’s heart.

They know we are upset. They know we are talking to each other. They know we’re organizing.

They offered a bonus because they know that will reduce some of the heat directed at them.

That is worker power.

If we can accomplish that just with the threat of organizing, what do you think we can accomplish if we actually stand together and demand better from them?

The best way to have a say in the changes that WGU claims to want is to come together and build a collective voice through organizing. If you believe that WGU should live up to our mission and support our students, please take action - Fill out this form to get involved in the efforts! https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/wgu-employees-we-are-organizing?source=direct_link&
