Has anyone heard about

A 50% reduction in the HR department at WGU?
A 7% reduction of WGU Academy employees?

Just wondering about logic of layoffs when the colo is just weeks away

Was anyone else around during the all hands with the bench pressing?

The memory just crossed my mind earlier when Scott bench pressed some meaningless number on stage in front of who knows how many people. Currently cringing into the earth’s core.

Just needed to share.

Glassdoor continues to fall

Now WGU stands at an overall rating of 2.7 stars out of 5, with Cry Baby's approval rating falling to 32%.

It's been refreshing to see more of the student-facing staff posting poor reviews. It's becoming clearer that it's not just RTO that has ruined the workplace culture. Simply put, WGU is not a desirable employer.

Another re-org happening?

Hi colleagues,

Maybe folks are already in the know about this, but I saw that Jennie Sanders has left WGU as of a couple of days ago. I know nothing else about this (e.g., whose decision it was, etc.). Obviously, the history of personnel decisions coming down from on high at the close of the fiscal year brings certain suspicions, but I have no knowledge other than what Jennie posted on LinkedIn, which was vague.

I post this just as an information item and to see if anyone else has contextual knowledge that might shed light on whether this is the harbinger of bigger things to come (or that are occurring now). I suspect, based on past experience, that little if anything will be communicated by the university itself, regardless of the situation.

Pay Range Adjustments

Heard from a colleague that they received a pay range increase to "align with the market" and that it would be 2-3% based on role, but others in the same role didn't receive any increases. Curious if this is a decision in all departments or just a quirk of mine.

Management originally said everyne would all see an increase on the July 10 paycheck and then walked that back to just *some* employees getting it.

BOYCOTT ALL HANDS

Let them speak to an empty office. Take a FTO or sick day, or simply sit in your cubicle or on the sh!tter for 60 minutes. Just do not go. And if you’re still temporarily remote, have PC issues and don’t log in. You already heard the only real news that impacts you as an employee - the measly bonus was announced in June. Do not attend July and August. Sit it out.

Performance Ratings

Now that the deadline has passed for our reviews... Do we know the dollar amount/percentage raise for each level?

"Needs Improvement" is zero, but what are Achieves, Exceeds, Outstanding?

Also, vent away about the ratings. For me, the season of performance reviews has me feeling a sort of way since my peers got to weigh in and shape the opinion. Maybe I'm old school, but I don't feel like my teammates should have a say in how much of a raise I get. Luckily, none of them did me dirty.

Is anyone else starting to feel like they're drowning?

The combination of the recently announced RTO WGU requirements, the overtime required by a growing number of time-sensitive projects, and the need to balance everything outside of work has me feeling completely underwater. As a working parent, I'm also trying to figure out how to absorb a significant increase in childcare costs to cover the change in hours, and it's becoming difficult to see how it all fits together.

When I accepted this position, I knew there would be busy seasons and occasional overtime. What I didn't expect was how dramatically expectations would change, and how all the promised work flexibility would disappear. I feel blindsided, and honestly, the stress has gotten to the point where I'm starting to notice physical health symptoms.

One thing that's really been weighing on me is that it feels like I can't even take a sick day anymore. Our project schedules are so tight and the workload is so heavy that taking time off when the headaches get bad or you have a fever because it just feels like it creates an even bigger problem when you come back because the work just piles up.

I'm not posting to complain or start an argument. I'm genuinely wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. If you are, how are you managing it? Have you found ways to make it sustainable, or are you feeling like you're reaching your limit too?

A Recruiter is AGGRESSIVELY contacting me about a position I’d love to take in ideal circumstances…

But after taking a quick look through Glassdoor, and now this subreddit, I’m starting to have second thoughts to say the least.

I may be naive, but is it really as bad (RTO, micromanaging, recurring layoffs, megalomaniac leadership, etc.) as they’re all saying it is?

If so, it would be a shame, because the position itself would be a huge step up as far as my career is concerned.

Let's change the trajectory of WGU together

In today’s town hall, our president cited studies about how remote work is inherently bad for employee mental health. He did not cite sources.

We acknowledge that some workers benefit from in-person work.

We also acknowledge that it is unfair to paint all workers with the same broad brush. We have done our own research, which demonstrates that there is more nuance to this discussion than what was shared.

Our research: https://www.coworkingcafe.com/blog/remote-work-well-being-survey-2026/

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/380383329_REMOTE_WORK_AND_PSYCHOLOGICAL_WELL-BEING_EXPLORING_THE_IMPACT_ON_EMPLOYEE_WELL-BEING_JOB_SATISFACTION_AND_WORK-LIFE_BALANCE

After making this claim, we were given a one-time bonus. As you know, bonuses rarely come from the goodness of an employer’s heart.

They know we are upset. They know we are talking to each other. They know we’re organizing.

They offered a bonus because they know that will reduce some of the heat directed at them.

That is worker power.

If we can accomplish that just with the threat of organizing, what do you think we can accomplish if we actually stand together and demand better from them?

The best way to have a say in the changes that WGU claims to want is to come together and build a collective voice through organizing.
