Officers in the Merchant Navy, how do you deal with the loneliness and isolation onboard? If I join, I don’t want my entire life to become just work, watches, and sleep. Is it realistically possible to maintain a good fitness routine, build a great physique, learn things like guitar, boxing, calisthenics, reading, etc onboard and actually work on yourself mentally and physically during contracts? Or after tough shifts are you usually too exhausted to stay consistent? I’m asking because I feel having something productive outside work might help a lot mentally during long periods at sea.
