question about design contributions to COSMIC: how can I exchange ideas with their UX/Design team?

Hey everyone!

I often find myself thinking about COSMIC's potential and how awesome the interface would look with a visual refresh to make everything more consistent. I’m fully aware that the System76 team is swamped with much heavier priorities right now (focusing on stability, core features, the Epochs timeline, etc.) and that theme polishing probably isn't on their immediate radar.

But I was wondering: if I were to create a theme/layout proposal myself and send it to their team, do you think there’s any openness to the community validating or approving that kind of contribution (even if it falls outside the scope of the current Epoch)?

Also, does anyone know the best channel to have a direct chat with the folks handling the project's design/UX? (Mattermost, GitHub, etc?)

If anyone knows how their visual contribution workflow works, I’d appreciate the help!

How to approach contributing core features to COSMIC DE?

i wish to contribute some features to COSMIC, specifically regarding dock customization (like better icon alignment options).

My concern is the project's design philosophy. If I put in the work to implement a core feature, not just an applet. Is there a high risk of the PR being rejected because it doesn't align with the maintainers' specific vision?

For those who have contributed to COSMIC or similar projects, is it better to open an Issue/Discussion first to gauge interest, or just submit the code? I don't want to waste time building something that doesn't fit the project's direction.

What's the weakest hardware you've managed to run COSMIC DE on?

Guys do you think it will ever be able to compete with XFCE on performance? Given that it's built in Rust, do you see it becoming truly lightweight and snappy for older machines in the future?

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X + RX 6600 XT Hackintosh: Is Sequoia the best choice, and will VMs/Docker work?

Hi everyone, keeping it short. Planning a Hackintosh for development and buying an RX 6600 XT soon.

Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4
  • Target OS: macOS Sequoia (OpenCore Vanilla)

Two quick questions:

  1. Sequoia Stability: Is Sequoia fully stable for this Ryzen + AMD GPU combo, or should I stick to Sonoma/Ventura for a daily driver?
  2. Docker/VMs on AMD: Does Apple's Hypervisor.framework still completely break Docker Desktop and VirtualBox on Ryzen in Sequoia? Any reliable workarounds for containers, or is it a dead end?

Thanks!

Window Manager Icons are Inconsistent

There seems to be an inconsistency with the window manager icons across some applications. In certain apps, the minimize, maximize, and close buttons change not only their icon style, but sometimes even their size.

Are there any plans to standardize these buttons so they remain visually consistent across all applications, using the same theme and icon style throughout COSMIC?
