My gripes with Code Vein 2

Enough time has passed and I wanted to give my honest opinion on Code Vein 2.

Overall Experience: For my overall experience with game I really enjoyed it in the beginning but the longer they more it felt like I was forcing myself to play game. It felt like I was obligated to play because I played the first game and with it being disconnected to the first game didn’t help either. Can you really call a game a sequel if not connected to the previous game? To a degree you could almost call it false marketing to a degree.

Gameplay/combat: To me the Gameplay was fun but also lackluster. It definitely was an improvement of the first game but to me sometimes the gameplay felt very boring and slow on the occasion. Especially the motorcycle it wasn’t fun to drive due to how slow it was. Overall the gameplay felt like a downgrade version of Elden Ring. I’m not saying it’s bad that how it felt to me. It was still fun wish it could’ve been better.

Lore: I really don’t really much to say here. The Revenants in Code Vein 2 are just your typical vampire who conquered the Sun and most of human civilization don’t like them. It doesn’t feel like it any originality to them. Unlike the first game, we know that Revenants are man made due to experiments with the Bore parasite and because of it they’re undead immortals soldiers that can keep coming back unless there heart is destroyed. I really appreciate the dark scientific horror aspect from the first game and that it takes place in the God Eater world. It gives the first game a lot more to it and a lot more to explore. While Code Vein 2 doesn’t have any of that. Another thing I want to talk about is resurgence. You telling me it caused by an overpopulation of Revenants? Like seriously? Please tell me I’m missing more context to this because when you think about will there ever be a true solution? As time goes on more revenant will be born/made making it get worse. It never will be a true solution.

Story: This might be my longest category. So I was excited in the beginning, seeing that going back in time see that our actions do affect/change the future. The longer I played it felt more like a big waste of time. I’m talking about when you go back in time second after slaying the heroes. After Slaying Lyle and seeing we could go back into time help prevent the tragedy that happened to him that happened to him and his group. Only to see that it still lead to him getting sealed up and have to be killed a second time. I genuinely asked myself what was the purpose of going back a second time. Yes everyone around him still alive but he still ends up being sealed and wishing for death. So we can go back in time and change the past but things stay the same but even though the game showed going to the past and changes the future. With greatest of example with Noah being unstone and the bridge forming. You can apply this to the other heroes as well. I want to talk about the endings which felt very forced to me. I’ll be talking about the second ending, where we beat Valentine. So in the original timeline past Lou failed to seal the resurgence but future Lou comes back and successfully does with our character sacrificing themselves. Shouldn’t our character/everything we done cease to exist? Because it’s a whole time paradox. Because if the seal successful that that mean we shouldn’t be brought back to life to kill the heroes but if you’re not Lou won’t be able to goes back in time. Like I said no matter what we do the resurgence still goes off eventually leading to being resurrected. Like I said the good ending force or this example of the storytelling team not knowing what aspect of time traveling to use and that it’ll be a true solution.

My expectations: When Code Vein 2 got announced I was really hoping it’ll be a crossover with God Eater. Just imagine it seeing Revenants and God Eater take on Aragami together. The many unknown possibilities of what happens if a Revenant drained an Aragami and gain Oracle Cells from it, seeing a potential hybrid race between God Eater and Revenant, seeing how the world would react to revenants. What happens if Aragami devours a revenant. They’re so many opportunities In my opinion if the original code vein got a true sequel it’ll be a lot funnier than code vein 2.

Closing: overall all I’m not saying Code vein 2 is bad game, it’s a good game. Overall I think it’s just in a bad spot. As a fan I didn’t ask or want this ask a next game. You can argue I’m being bias towards the first game or blame me for not disassociating it from the first game but can really blame a long time fan? It’s called Code Vein 2 returning/long time fan it’ll be hard to separate the two and not compare. If anything the game felt more towards new fans/players then old players/fan. Over I’ll give it a 6/10 as it own game it’s good. As returning fan you’re really not going to enjoy it. Again that’s my opinion everyone have there opinion and thoughts and these are mine.
