IWC Pilot Chrono repair - shout out to Steve @ UnderTheDial

I acquired an ASPF IWC Pilot Chrono from Andiot back in March and I was really pleased with it.

However at the beginning of June I noticed the date wheel seemed to be moving under its own steam and would rotate all by itself through the day.

I did my research and called out to Steve (UnderTheDial) to see if he could assist.

After a very helpful and reassuring chat with Steve saying he could sort this out, I posted off my watch on June 9th.

On June 11th, Steve replied saying he had fixed the problem, serviced the movement and improved the crown tube, which I had mentioned was a little bit stiff to screw down.

Apparently I had a broken spring on the date jumper lever.

Steve had managed to sort the repair using a similar spring which he modified to fit.

We then had a super conversation about the AP freesprung movement and he shared a load of highly interesting pictures from his Facebook page (which I don't have) showing his breakdown of this movement. All very interesting to me.

The watch arrived back in my hands on June 13th and all appeared fine to start with.

However, on the morning of the 14th the date wheel appeared to be stuck.

I reached out to Steve again and he kindly suggested sending the watch back for him to have another look at.

So back it went and Steve discovered the new spring he had fashioned was slightly catching on the movement.

He sorted it out FOC and sent the watch back to me.

It's now been keeping perfect time and the date has been working flawlessly.

I can't thank Steve enough for sorting this out.

I know it's only a Chinese rep at the end of the day but it still cost a reasonable sum of cash to buy so the fact he was able to fix it has been a real godsend.

On top of that, he's a really nice bloke to talk to and clearly loves what he does, and is good at it.

So if anybody needs a watch repair I'd highly recommend getting in contact with him and seeing if he can help you out like he helped me out.

For clarity, this is my personal review of Steve. He's not asked me to do it, but I did tell him I was going to.

Daytona Panda size surprise

Finally got my dream Daytona Panda (QF Free Sprung edition) delivered after ordering it from Andiot back at the beginning of June and whilst being as stunning as I hoped, it was also a lot smaller than I was expecting.

I've no idea why I thought it would be as big as my IWC chrono but seeing them side by side it almost looks comedically small.

I've included a shot shot showing all 3 of my Andiot delivered watches and all 3 are spectacular to look at but the Daytona is the biggest surprise, size wise.

No complaints just a interesting realisation.

Advice on DDSF AP Royal Oak Chrono

Hi,

I’ve had on my shopping list for a while an APSF AP Royal Oak Chrono with the purple dial. However now APS no longer exist I’ve been looking for a suitable replacement.

Steve (TOW) has offered me the same model but from the DDSF factory. Now I thought this might have been the same as DDF factory but he says they are not the same. I’ve seen a lot of DDF models on the QC sub and they seem pretty good. However I can’t seem to find any good DDSF mentions.

Has anybody had any experience with the DDSF AP Chrono models and can offer me any advice one way or the other?
