can i afford this?

35 yo in high cost of living midwest city

net monthly income is 3575 and place i want to move in with my best friend is $1050 plus utilities which im estimating on the high end $500 a month (gas - electric- internet)

My current rent is $900 all included so im having a really hard time making the move when thinking about the extra $$ although its a nicer apt/living situation

no debt no car payment - $75 monthly for transportation

i’d have to dip into my savings for the actual moving cost and will be left with one month rent in savings basically if i move.

is this unwise to attempt? is the $400 month towards housing a bad idea?

any 30s folks who live and big city and struggling with rent?

to those who are making just a little more than what is considered poverty median but still not enough to afford a studio apt near transit. how do you manage? i spend a lot of time worrying about what would happen if i suddenly lose my job or what will happen when i can no longer afford to live anywhere thats close to transportation since i can’t afford a car?

Came here to get a different perspective

i’ve been living alone for about a year now and man i really want to live with people i enjoy and can parallel play and do meals together. when i read some posts here it makes me feel like wow maybe i just need to look at things a little different! some people make it seem so fun to be living alone it makes me want to rewire my brain!

looking for private landlord leads for 2b on the north side?

Our budget (2 people) is around $2300 we’re both working full time jobs and make x3 rent with very good credit score

looking for an older building type thing not those new rehabbed remodeled cookie cutter units.

our move in date is 7/1 but can be flexible for the right spot

hoping to be within 15 mins walking distance from any redline station on the north side edgewater, uptown, rovers park

can expand the search to albany park or somewhere near brown or purple line

we have a small shitzu dog so that’s the only other requirement on our list.

any leads would be so very much appreciated!
