Reminder for Tuesday Primary Voters

[Disclaimer: Yes I'm a Hong supporter, but whoever the dem gubernatorial nominee is on Wednesday, they will have my full support and I will continue volunteering with the WisDems, irrespective of outcome. Just felt the need to say that upfront given the state of the subreddit right now.]

-----

If you are registered to vote and are doing so on election day, make sure to have valid photo ID.

If you are not registered to vote, you will need to register at the polling location, which will also require you to provide proof of residence, such as a utility bill for where you live.

Another thing to remember is that this is a partisan primary election, so you cannot vote for multiple candidates in multiple parties. You must choose one party to support in this election.

Polls are open from 7AM to 8PM, so plan accordingly and remember that state law says if you are in line by 8, then you must be allowed to vote.

While most of this will be known to experienced voters, try to remind any new voters you've rounded up this cycle of these points so they are prepared for Tuesday.

Also, and this one is a newer issue, if you have placed any bets or wagers on the primary outcome, you cannot vote in this election. There are platforms that allow people to place money on election outcomes and if you participate in these, your vote may be administratively disqualified. You may also be referred to the district attorney for criminal charges. [Kind of ridiculous that this needs to be said, in my opinion, and that election gambling was even legalized in the first place, but if you have chosen to participate in this then you must sit out the election]

Only around 1/4 of eligible voters show up for primaries, so make your voice heard on Tuesday, Aug 11!

Thomas Cruz, alleged slumlord and real estate grifter, continues to issue bogus legal threats to mod team because his feelings are hurt

For those out of the loop, Tom Cruz [not to be confused with the actor] had a post about him made on this subreddit two years ago, which can be found here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/behindthebastards/comments/1ejf3sl/tom_cruz_real_estate_bastard/

Since then, the mod team of this subreddit has received a number of requests from various accounts begging, pleading, and threatening us to take down the post on his behalf because it shows up when people Google him.

Rather than cowing to this nonsense, we've decided to uphold the post and continue posting the impotent legal threats of this exploitative dork who charged tenants rent for unlivable properties.

Thomas Cruz apparently does not understand the 1st Amendment protecting free speech, but fortunately the mod team here has a stronger grasp on it and his pathetic efforts to silence critics will not prevail.

To my fellow Hong supporters, a humble request

I'm also frustrated by the Evers endorsement, but I think it is important we follow Fran's lead and keep the messaging classy and focused on policy.

I've volunteered with both the Hong campaign and my local WisDems in this midterm cycle and I truly believe she can win the nomination, but once she does we're gonna need the support of the party regulars to help in the lead-up to November.

There is a strong progressive base in Wisconsin that I've seen tapped by this campaign; after all 71 of our state's 72 counties went for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primary. I know that Fran will have a lot of supporters if she wins the primary, including many previously disaffected voters who may have been turned off by the democratic party establishment meddling in the past. Even still, I think it is in our best interest to keep a respectful dialogue open with democrats who may have voted for someone else in the primary.

**I humbly ask that you try to build bridges with those folks and not burn them.**

With Rodriguez dropping out, I've spoken to multiple WisDems regulars who say that Hong will be their new choice in the primary and a lot of credit for that decision comes from the goodwill that I and other Hong+WisDem dual volunteers have garnered. If they had a bad experience or argument or fight with me, they may have rejected Hong out of spite, so remember to be a good ambassador for the movement because that is the winning strategy.

I'm not saying compromise on your values or ideals, but civility can go a long way toward building key support within the party and among bystanders, so please bear that in mind when you encounter those with different ideas.

Fran's focus and discipline in these final weeks is a shining example of why I think she has the temperament and drive to be a great governor and it should be an example we all aspire to follow.

Citizen Action of Wisconsin: Citizen Action of Wisconsin endorses Francesca Hong for Governor

The long-time progressive advocacy group Citizen Action of Wisconsin has endorsed Fran.

While there is still a month until the primary, I'm hopeful the endorsement from this influential nonprofit with a long track record of advocating for the families and communities of Wisconsin will show people that Hong is the real deal.

I know some folks are tired of seeing posts about her campaign, but I and the thousands of other campaign volunteers around the state believe we can win this thing and hope that you are also onboard with fighting for a better future.

My First Experience Canvassing for Francesca Hong

Today was the first time I canvassed for Francesca Hong.

Her platform and the things she is fighting for inspired me to get off my butt and knock doors, and I just wanted to share my experience for the benefit of anyone who might be thinking of taking that next step.

Almost everyone I talked to was enthusiastic about her platform when I explained it, especially a soon-to-be grandmother who was very hopeful about Fran's free childcare plan. While I didn't wrangle up any new volunteers on this first showing, some people who said they'd never voted in a primary before are now commmitted to Fran and a few more yard signs are going out to them.

Got hit by some downpours so I plan on finishing the list tomorrow during better weather, but the response so far has been very encouraging. I've never volunteered for a primary candidate like this, but I feel glad that I did and I'm hopeful tomorrow I can bring more people onboard.

I know there are a lot of Hong supporters on this subreddit and I encourage you to volunteer if you are able. It feels good to talk with your neighbors and get the message out about a candidate who will fight for us and make a better Wisconsin for working class folks.

We can make better happen! Hong for governor!
