Correction: Puritans loved female orgasm

In today’s episode contextualizing the orgasm cult, Robert said that Americans are anti-sex because of our Puritan moral origins.

However, the Puritans were very pro-female orgasm within marriage. We know this from their diaries, medical journals, even court records. Because they shared the common British belief from that time (oddly enough, echoed in the most recent season of Bridgerton) that a woman can’t get pregnant if she doesn’t orgasm.

Only tangentially related, but the Puritans also believed abortion was fine prior to quickening (20ish weeks). Our ideas about Puritan sexuality come more from Nathaniel Hawthorne’s religious trauma than their actual beliefs.

Important context on the Tiresias myth

In today's episode, Robert mentions the tale of Tiresias and how Zeus & Hera went to him to settle their orgasm debate, but he doesn't mention why they go to Tiresias.

According to his myths, Tiresias had come across a pair of snakes fucking on the road and used a stick to separate them, and somehow that turned Tiresias into a woman. Tiresias lived as a woman for a number of years, possibly marrying depending on the source, and then coming across another pair of snakes fucking, and struck them apart again, turning back into a man. That is, Tiresias had lived as both a man and a woman.

Hera blinded Tiresias for siding with Zeus, and Zeus gave Tiresias the power of prophecy to compensate, which is how Tiresias wound up advising the Theban royal family later on.

Do I know this because as a young, closeted trans person I was always on the lookout for snakes fucking along the sidewalk? Yes. Also I read Ovid in high school.

(My take on this is that Tiresias was probably intersex or nonbinary, and an imported figure from some of the Near Eastern traditions, where intersex people and gender non-conforming people were often connected with some sort of divination or prophetic ability)

Is Peyronie’s disease a psyop? Or is there just a broken dick epidemic?

I first heard about Peyronie’s disease on DTF St Louis (great show) and googled it to see what it was. Then I started seeing ads on Reddit for it everywhere and assumed it was just because of cookies. But now Robert is personally reading ads about it? Peyronie’s disease has to be the biggest Baader-Meinhof phenomenon experience I’ve ever had and I have to know if I’m alone. Have I somehow just avoided hearing about this my whole life or is there some huge influx of dudes breaking their dicks?

Trump on Talarico: "He believes in six genders, he takes hits at Jesus Christ, he's wearing a mask six months ago. Anybody wearing a mask six months ago doesn't get it. And he's a vegan! He's a vegan in Texas."

Here we go again...

They are really about to go kidnap another president....

I wonder if this is why the CIA was in Havana last week, seeing if they could have just talked him into leaving.

Unbiased Israel info

Mods, feel free to take this down, but seems a good place to ask

Israel is in the political news a lot. I'm looking to educate myself on the topic ( and Judaism history in general).

However, since it's such a contentious historical topic, I'm finding that a lot of sources are hiding bias, whether it be anti-Semitic bias, white supremacist or Israel propaganda on the other end of the spectrum or weird Christian Israel prophecy nonsense as well.

I'm looking for any reputable nonbiased books/research/researchers to read up on.

A thought on Mr. Bezos and his new facial hair...

I don't like to discuss appearance much since we all have our flaws/insecurities but...

hes a fucking billionaire so fuck it - facial hair on him looks awful.

He also said this during the interview: "I think he's a more mature, more disciplined of himself than he was in his first term. Trump has lots of good ideas. He's been right about a lot of things. You have to give him credit where credit is due."
