Yeonmi Park, The North Korean Defector Grifter

You might have seen a woman named Yeonmi Park floating around online for her interviews and support for the Trump administration. Yeonmi is an author and activist who escaped North Korea at 13 in 2007 into China. She has since made a living sharing her life story and the rape, murder and famine that goes on in North Korea.

Except in the years since Yeonmi came into the spotlight, many publications have debunked her specific claims about North Korea. There was likely no bodies floating in rivers during the famine, ‘pleasure squads’ where high ranking officials selected girls from schools are highly debatable. I have read sex trafficking similar to pleasure squads but not nearly as widespread and normalized as Yeonmi claims. Ontop of that Yeonmis stories have changed a dozen times like what happened to her dad, her age during several events and contradictions with her mother’s interview. Yeonmi is not a reliable source on life inside North Korea, but the people who keep platforming her after her stories have been called out are all pro capitalist right wingers. Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan, James O Keefe all have a vested interest in painting the stereotypical ideas of communist regimes to make capitalist societies look better. Now Yeonmi almost exclusively appears on far right talk shows and podcasts, promoting fascist ideology.

Baltimore’s only Nurses union striking tomorrow because the hospital is run by bastards and they are still without a contract

Plenty of bastardly things have gone on as comical business idiot villain Beau Higgenbotham refuses to negotiate in good faith with my wife’s union representing the nurses at the Baltimore area’s only hospital with unionized nurses. if anyone is bored it’s going to be hot out. We march at dawn.

There is a completely equal chance that either Trump is taking credit for shit he had nothing to do with like always, or that the bastards at FIFA are so deeply corrupt that they took a bribe from the US government.

Man this line from the July 2nd episode felt spot on:

“One of the most reliable ways to make a lot of money in American media is to find a group of people that a bunch of assholes already want to hurt and then give them excuse to hurt those people.”

This show often makes me sad about the state of the world, but for some reason I keep going back for more.

Cliche post

Recently unemployed and newly realized I no longer want to work the job I’ve had for nearly 20years.

Lucky enough to relax and collect unemployment for a bit. I’ve gone through all the posts and listened to most of the common “starting points”
For the pod as I was already a dedicated listener.

Tell me about all the episodes no one talks about, your favorites that no one else seems to care about or just episodes you find interesting!

Paid the cat tax bc he’s the coolest

Why does Peter Thiel like Girard, Schmitt and Strauss?

I've been listening to the (very good) episodes on Peter Thiel and his philosophical influences, mainly Strauss, Schmitt, and Girard. He seems obsessed with memetic theory and scapegoating, and it seems to have influenced many of his decisions, including his decision to invest early in Facebook. But as someone who isn't the most well-versed in philosophy, I'm struggling to connect the dots between his worship of these philosophers, his obsession with the Antichrist and transhumanism and his authoritarian vision for the world? Any smart cookies want to help me out would be much appreciated.

What is the most uniquely American thing you can think of?

For me it's my 600 pound life. People needing to go on a reality tv show to pay for their gastric bypass is the most American thing I can think of.

Either that or school shooting victims raising 300k to pay their medical bills.

What about you?

Portland fireworks are a lesson in class consciousness

https://www.reddit.com/r/Portland/s/HTbgk0Zd2Z

for some reason I can’t post as a link right now, so see above. Rich pricks paid 1000 dollars to attend a gated BLUES festival in a neighborhood favorite place to watch the fireworks. The even was a fundraiser for the fireworks budget, which had the bootlickers swarming the comments to defend their aristocratic overlords without a moment of critical thinking about how wealth works in this shitty oligarchical country.

happy Independence Day. A day when we celebrate throwing tyrannical government into the water and letting it wash away.
