Tanya's Actual War Crimes [cumulative post, please add in comments, contributions will be edited in]

Note: we don't have access to the full text of the in-Universe treaties that apply in Tanya's world, so, when discussing her obvious atrocities and whether they are legal or not, we're forced to reason by analogy, using contemporary equivalents from our own world as our best guess.

Sure, we could take her at her word that she has pored over the rules in detail and that she, in her infallible legal expertise, has never committed an actual war crime or betrayed anyone in her life. But where's the fun in that?

Or we could tell her, "Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, uh, your opinion, man." and apply our own reason critical thinking to the best of our ability with the tools that we have.

The point is not to 'prove' that Tanya is evil. The point is that it's fun and interesting to look at her quibbling chicaneries, I mean righteous arguments, over obvious atrocities, I mean controversial tactical decisions, and pick and poke at them and see what we find, and also take the opportunity to learn a bit about our own world's rules and their historical evolution and rationale. The joy of it is that it's fictional and inconsequential.

Booby-trapping corpses

In our world, the first time this obvious atrocity started becoming common enough that there was a need to explicitly spell it out and ban it by name was in the Additional Protocol I (1977) to the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the The first time this obvious atrocity started becoming common enough that there was a need to explicitly ban it by name was in the Additional Protocol I (1977) to the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the Protocol II to the 1980 Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW).

However, in general, desecrating corpses was always morally and legally prohibited.

More recently, the 1863 Lieber Code explicitly addresses respect for the dead and prohibits cruelty.

The 1907 Hague Conventions prohibit treacherous killing.

Geneva 1864 (Article 17) requires parties to ensure the dead are honorably interred and to prevent despoliation. And if, not only did you actively and wilfully fail to do that, which trapping is unambiguous proof of, but the opposition approaches the corpses with the intent of performing that obligation themselves, and get blown up for obeying the law, that's straight-up perfidy (i.e. treacherous killing).

Geneva 1906:

> Art. 3. After every engagement the belligerent who remains in possession of the field of battle shall take measures to search for the wounded and to protect the wounded and dead from robbery and ill treatment. He will see that a careful examination is made of the bodies of the dead prior to their interment or incineration.

> Art. 4. As soon as possible each belligerent shall forward to the authorities of their country or army the marks or military papers of identification found upon the bodies of the dead, together with a list of names of the sick and wounded taken in charge by him.

Geneva 1929:

> Art. 3. After each engagement the occupant of the field of battle shall take measures to search for the wounded and dead, and to protect them against pillage and maltreatment.

*Art. 4 also gets expanded to spell out that you need to rigorously examine, identify, and document the corpses, collect their dog tags and personal effects, inter them properly, label and locate the grave, and, when possible, send the info and the corpses' personal effects home so they can grieve, visit, and maybe move the corpse.

> They shall further ensure that the dead are honourably interred, that their graves are respected and marked so that they may always be found.

So, no matter how you look at it, Tanya fucking with the corpses in any way other than respectful funerary processing, bookkeeping, and item repatriation, let alone booby-trapping them, is illegal in the positive sense of doing something that's forbidden and in the negative sense of not doing what she's supposed to be doing.

Tsk tsk. Not only is she being evil, she's being lazy and sloppy—and I'd bet the latter charge would offend her more. What self-respecting Japanese Salaryman fails to properly clean up after themselves and to do proper accounting and bookkeeping like that. I guess the Empire is a bit of a Black Company, no pun intended, but "I'm overworked and understaffed and at my wit's end" is no excuse to blow up your unprocessed inventory like that. 責任を取れ!

Is it me or is Tanya 'The Evil' slowly turning into Ciaphas Cain (HERO OF THE EMPIRE!)

I only have vague recollections of her in Season 1 as this vile, cruel, manipulative, sociopathic little shit whose only redeeming virtue was competence. But now she seems like the most reasonable, moderate, sensible, and sane person in the entire cast, the only one with a modicum of respect for human life and resources. Everyone else seems to have completely lost their minds to The Slaughter. Since when is ending a war at Status Quo Ante Bellum this heretical unacceptable unthinkable dishonor? Sometimes everybody loses and that's okay, life goes on.

So she's now this fake Imperial Hero with real competence, this hidden cynic who inspires the beautiful fools around them to heroism, this larger than life figure whose mere presence distorts the battlefield from sheer expectation and precedent, who would like nothing more than a cushy rearendguard sinecure and keeps instead finding herself in the hottest point of every front, in such situations where the safest way past danger is through.

It's a good thing she has no conscience problems at all, so crippling imposter syndrome is not a problem for her whatsoever.

Also, is it me or is Season 2 significantly uglier and frequently and blatantly more off-model than S1?

Vir NOOOO! [Novelization spoilers]

Been reading Legions of Fire II - Armies of Light and Dark, and what Vir had Galen do to Mariel was despicable, and also hilarious. It really was beneath him. A monstrous thing to do to any sapient sentient being. But it was also her that it was happening to, and she's a murderess, abuser, and downright sociopath.

And when she starts singing Vir's praises in public so vehemently, I am horrified and in stitches at the same time.

Such mixed feelings.

The Karma Vir just spent on such a gratifying and effective method was enormous. I hope he can earn it back. This is despicable. And amazing.

Hell.

Do not meddle in the affairs of Techno-Mages, for they are subtle, and can mess you up so bad you don't even know.

I hope Londo finds out and stares at Vir like Charlie from The Whale. Just sheer shamed guilty disappointment. "I did not raise you like this."

I was gonna say "Londo, come on, that's the wrong tool for the job" but he actually did it. That's legitimately impressive. I wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of a swordfight with *this* man.

Why would a corrupt government burn five tonnes of seized cocaine?

Because it's unsafe to store 4 tons of Cocaine.

If the dealers know where the 3 ton is stored, they will organize a raid to steal back the 2 Tons of cocaine.

The Police then need to explain how 1 Ton of cocaine can be stolen from a secured warehouse and investigators will go looking for the 500kg of cocaine.

When the investigators find the 250kg of cocaine they will bring it to another safe location where the 125kg of cocaine will be stored safely next to the 2.44 AK47 they collected during a raid on not the presidents brothers house.

After the 75kg of cocaine is safely stored they will take all the cars from the criminals, half a range rover, 3 Lamborghini wheels, a 1.5 mercedes amg and 42 bricks that looked like gold but after inspection the 32 bricks turned out to be just bricks.

They also found a lot of broken glass everywhere, the politicians and police officers involved have collected all the broken glas that was stored in big jewellery boxes in the bedrooms of one of the "not the politicians" houses.

After all the witnesses are burned the community is safe again.

Together we can destroy society much faster than on your own, be a part of destruction, be a part of our team,Your people need you, why are yo gay, be a man..

Does Will de Renzy-Martin's Marazhai remind anyone else of Steve Blum's Starscream at his most proud, seductive, and purring? "I have NO master!" he *desperately* insists.

I don't get the hate for this trailer. It signals clearly it's a very loose adaptation doing its own thing. 'Troy' tried to appear more faithful so the betrayals were more egregious. This seems more like a riff, openly doing their own thing?
