What were your first impressions when you watched Frieren for the first time?

At first, I wasn't expecting much, but in the end, the anime really surprised me,What I like most about this anime is the story's natural balance calm and fun moments, characters with natural charisma, and of course, the action sequences, which also include contemplative and relaxing scenes,It's really cool to see each character getting their moment to shine.

I wasn't expecting anything, but in the end it captivated me quite a bit, what about you?

Granny, You're Too Old to Ride! (by bob770710)

Police Officer: Where’s your helmet? You’ll be fined NT$500 for riding without one!

Frieren: Hm? That’s sudden… There wasn’t a rule like this the last time I rode.

Police Officer: Uh… this rule has been in effect for about 30 years now…

Frieren: Then can I use a defensive spell instead of a helmet?

Police Officer: …No, you can’t… Miss, you don’t have a driver’s license either, do you?

Frieren: Of course I do. I only got it not long ago.

Flamme's Shame

Demons shamelessly manipulate and murder humans by using human words deceptively.

So why is it considered shameful for Flamme, Frieren, and Fern to manipulate and murder demons by using their "native language" of magic deceptively? It's not like they are doing this to trick and defeat other honorable mages in formal battles or anything - just tricking bloodthirsty evil beasts who would otherwise literally devour them and their offspring without a care in the world.

How is this, in Flamme's words, "making a mockery of magic?"

I've only seen the anime series btw, so if it is explained at some point in the manga, please don't spoil it for me.

The real reason mages use staffs (picture is a giant spoiler for the golden land arc)

Certain spells can blow back and injure the caster. Especially if the caster is running low on mana or has bad mana control and can't protect their hands.

It would also make sense why you start off apprentice mages with staffs. You don't want a kid accidentally blowing off their own arm if they mess up a spell. Then from there it just probably becomes a habit for most mages to keep using a staff.

The mages we see not using staffs in current day are Richter; a mage who doesn't use energy based attack spells. And mages like Falsche and Sense who also don't use energy based attacks. (By energy based attack spells I mean a spell that creates a substance that's directly destructive ie. Zoltrack, Vollzanbel, Judrajim, Catastravia, etc.)

Genau is the one exception who does use an energy based attack spell with his hands but we only see him use that spell as a quick draw attack we never see him use it in serious combat.

Mages like Flamme and Serie have enough mana to where they would never have to worry about accidentally injuring themselves. But even then Flamme still doesn't shoot the spell we see her kill the three demons following her and Frieren out of her hand. The spell she cast appears instantly on top of her opponents. The spell itself never actually goes near her.

Serie can be disregarded since she has so much mana and her mana control is so ridiculously good it would be nearly impossible for her to be damaged by her own spells.

It's what Himmel would have done (by bob770710)

Body text

Himmel: Let me give you a ride home after school too, Frieren! (tosses hair)

Frieren: Hmm... it's definitely faster than walking, but...

Himmel: Don't worry about me finding it a hassle. I couldn't be happier to give you a ride!

Frieren: Mud and dirt are splashing all over me...

(The schoolbags and uniforms are drawn directly from the high school I used to attend)
