Awesome autograph and a really cool story (to me, at least)
Trina Nishimura -- Jiro's English voice actor -- was at Animate! Philadelphia this weekend and I got to speak with her and had her sign this poster. As usual, she was so welcoming and sweet and so amazing to see the way she interacts with fans of all ages.
What was really amazing for me was, when it was my turn, she looks at me and says, "It's nice to meet ... wait, we've met before, haven't we?" I was absolutely floored. I met her in May 2023 at another convention in Philadelphia. While I was wearing the same Jiro shirt yesterday that I wore at that previous convention, it was still three-and-a-half years of conventions and meet-and-greets ago, and I don't think I'm a particularly unique-looking guy. So for her to actually remember having met me, really floored me.
The line for autographs at this convention weaved back and forth in front of the table, so you can hear all the conversations. She didn't ask anyone else if they'd met previously, so I was the only one she said that to. Maybe she recognized the shirt and just took a shot in the dark, but either way, as much as I love Trina for the way she treats the fans and interacts with us, this really brought her to a new level in my eyes.
And whether it was just the shirt she recognized or not, I still came away with a cool conversation and this awesome autograph that's going to go in a place of honor in my Jiro display.
