Just re-read #43 The Test, I forgot just how similar Taylor's plan was to the Animorphs plan when they choose to bomb the yeerk pool in a few books

So, for those like myself who've forgotten, Taylor's plan was to create a giant natural gas explosion in the yeerk pool area, killing thousands. Cassie was so distraught at the idea that she chose to sit that mission out entirely, and ultimately putting a stop to it altogether.

In #52 The Sacrifice the Animorphs bomb the pool with 10, one-thousand pound bombs. Cassie objects, but ultimately goes along with it. They give people a 5 minute escape period, but like, damn. Not much of difference. Anyone notice how similar these two plans are?

Great book by the way. I don't believe Tobias has any bad books when I think about it.

I made Babish's pot roast and oh my gawd!

This is the second time I've made it, but the first time I've remembered to take pictures. I actually started this process on Saturday, and finally got to eat it today. The primary difference is that I made mine with chuck roast steaks as opposed to flat iron. Unlike last time I reheated this one slowly and the beef is so much juicier. Roasting the veggies though so that they retain their individual flavors is just so great. I highly recommend this to everyone willing to spend some serious time in the kitchen.

I made Babish's chicky chicky parm parm tonight

This is the second time I've made this, and while I went my own way on the sauce, I always use my wife's grandmother's recipe, I did add in a very large heirloom tomato that basically melted into the sauce as it cooked, which was inspired by his sauce recipe.

All that said, I follow his chicken recipe to the letter, and it's so damn good. I highly recommend everyone try it so long as they enjoy chicken parmesan.

Dr. Miller is terrible

In the episode "My Tormented Mentor" she is introduced and rightfully goes off on The Todd for being a sexist prick, but also goes off on Turk for defending her. While I'm convinced she would have also been upset with Turk for saying nothing, I could have accepted it if she hadn't turned around and objectified Elliot for dressing pretty in the next scene.

At this point in the series, I'm rewatching it currently, we've had an episode about Carla wearing a thong because it makes her look good and thus feel good, and we've had an episode about Elliott dressing good/doing makeup because it makes her look good and thus feel good.

What are we supposed to get out of Dr. Miller's rant against Elliot and Turk? That it's okay to objectify women if you happen to be a woman and to not stand up for women in the work place who are actively being harassed in the moment, if you happen to be a man?

I have a new goal, work 1.5 hours less each day at work

So, I was listening to a Planet Money today and they cited a statistic that I took major note of and turned it into a goal of mine. Due to PTO policies, Europeans work 1.5 hours less each day at work than Americans do. 5, days a week, that's 7.5 hours per week, (basically a 32.5 day work week), and 390 hours a year, or 48.75 work days a year, if you consider 8 hours to be a work day. I've been in the US workforce since 2010, putting in over a month of extra work in comparison to our neighbors across the pond, and I'm officially done, and I'm taking it back starting today. 6/9/2026 for my own records.

So, while I can't simply not be at work 1 extra day a week, I can, and intend to, commit to not doing work 90 extra minutes a day, on top of my 75 minutes of current break time (45 minute lunch, plus two 15-minute breaks). I will be setting an hour and a half timer on my phone each day, pausing it if something immediate comes up, and starting it again once I get done. I will make sure that 90 minutes is filled with non-work related activities (internet, reddit, going outside, etc).

I have no more intentions of waiting around until we make the system as a whole, better. I'm simply going to make my system of work better, and I encourage others to do the same, if at all possible. I welcome any and all ideas on how to do this even better than my current plan.
