Genetic Mutation in Psychedelics

Might be against the rules, I’m sorry if it is. Know that it comes from blatant curiosity and an utter lack of knowledge

Recently met a friend who is into growing as medication for their kid’s bipolar. I know in other plants the anti-herbivore chemicals are the ones us humans love (caffeine in coffee, nicotine, etc). My friend was sharing how new strains come from mutations that are then stabilized and cloned

The question is multiple parts, she couldn’t answer any

  1. are the psychedelic compounds also anti-herbivore?
  2. will too many of these anti-herbivore chemicals (an “overdose“) produce toxic results?
  3. can a mutation be so extreme that it turns the mushroom from psychedelic to toxic?

How do you sharpen your hoof knives?

I have a pair of hoof knives for my two personal horses and I cannot for the life of me get them sharp! I feel like I’m sharpening then unsharpening them. I’ve tried files, chainsaw files, kitchen knife rods… nothing. Better that when I started but not sharp by any stretch of the imagination

Any hints, tips, tricks, tools?

RANT: Baby Frustrations

Babies. Just babies…

This is my two year old. She’s been so good her entire life, a thinker sure, but never an issue. Just thinks things through in her own time and then goes through them like she’s an old ranch gelding toting children around the backyard. Wears a plastic bag as a hat type of horse.

But damn it we just had a massive baby moment that resulted in a snapped lead rope, knocked the wind out of her, and now she’s super insecure about even wanting to stand near where she was tied. What was I asking of her? Simply stand on three legs. Not let me pick them out. We had regressed to just stand politely on three legs for a couple of seconds. She’s never had an issue with pulling back. I didn’t notice anything that could have spooked her, neither did the other horses (ones an Arab). Just antsy, wiggly, and suddenly decided enough is enough. Doesn’t help that it was an old rope (thinking about it after the fact, my memories of it start 15 years ago)

Do all babies do this occasionally? Just have a baby moment and loose their shit over something they’ve been doing for years? Have I messed up somewhere massively and don’t know it? I’ve had horses for 25 years, she’s my first baby baby, before her youngest was 4…

Edit to add: it probably feels worse because she is usually so good

Two years with my orphan filly

Went to pick her up under the impression of a quarter horse to mature to 15hh. Throughout serious of hilarious miscommunications I ended up with a Selle Francais x Hanoverian who will be close to 17hh. She still takes snuggle naps (if we go to long without she still turns into an over tired cranky toddler)

I’ve been trimming my own horse hooves for a bit now, on and off guidance whenever a farrier happens through my area mixed with a lot of internet research (not ideal I know, I live in a really remote area and farriers are really hard to come by)

Last couple of times I’ve noticed it seems like my hoof knife is getting dull. This evening when I was working on my gelding it felt like I kept glancing off the surface (it has also been super dry here so that doesn’t help). With the curve of a hoof knife, how on earth do you sharpen these things?!

Recommendations for tools welcome, only sharpening thing I have at this point is a foolish three slot one for kitchen knives and a little rasp for chainsaw chains
