I desperately need some advice (and to get this off my chest)

Hello everyone. First time posting here.

To make a very long story short, I’m a college student who’s struggling with this new puppy introduced to the family.

I live with my parents and my sister. For the longest time, my mom and sister have wanted a puppy, but each time we try it never really works out. We’ve had to give away two puppies previously, and each time it was hard on all of us. I really didn’t want to have to go through that again, so I made it clear to my mom that we just can’t take care of a dog. I have college, my sister just started high school, and both of my parents have demanding jobs. There just isn’t time or energy.

Lo and behold, my mom got a third puppy anyway. She arranged for it and bought it without me or my dad knowing. That pissed me off in of itself, but what’s really getting me is that she’s barely home to take care of him. Ive been the one staying with him most of the time, and he’s driving me INSANE! I have to keep constant watch over him like a hawk, he’s always licking shit off the floor, and he chewed on the cable for our reclining couch. So now our brand new couch is broken. Ive been trying to train him but he just won’t listen to me.

And so, inevitably, I end up losing my patience and raising my voice at him. I feel immediately bad afterwards, but I don’t know what to do. I didn’t want a puppy, but now that he’s here i don’t want to go through giving a way another one. I really like this one, even if he drives me nuts.

I don’t know, I guess I’m more venting than anything else because I’m just so annoyed by how this all happened. I told my mom not to get one, and she got one and now I have to do most of the work? Keep in mind I’m in college AND I have a job. I’m only home one day out of the week. The rest of the time he just stays in the house alone. It’s not fair to him. The poor thing is just locked in my sister’s room most of the time.

Anyway, rant over. Right now I could just use some advice:

  1. How did you train your puppy to not eat stuff of the floor?

  2. How do you train your puppy to not run outside when opening a door (He’s escaped way too many times)

  3. How do you train your puppy to stop chewing things? And get him to chew only his toys?

  4. Tips on crate training for when he’s alone? I’m trying to see about getting a pet sitter or walker.

I could really use the help. I’m lost. Thanks for your time.

PLEASE tell me I’m not the only one noticing the excessive amount of rain/flood warnings.

I feel like we’ve been getting “heavy downpour” and “severe thunderstorm” warnings every… fucking… week! It’s mostly in the weekends too, which is really fucking annoying because I work weekends.

This week we’re set to have thunderstorms going almost all day for like 5 days. Yet, when I bring it up to my relatives or one of my coworkers they always say something like “Philly always gets thunderstorms around this time.” The news is equally vague.

I’ve lived in Philly my whole life. I know we get rainy season around this time, but I feel like it’s never been THIS bad or THIS constant. I like rain but this is getting infuriating.

Am I going crazy? I’m trying not to resort to climate change doomsday-ism, but this is insane. Dont get me started on the poor air quality and tornado warnings.
