SmartLlink card/trips for sale

Stupid me - I realize I still have a SmartLink card that has 124 trips left (!!!), and another one with 87 trips left (!!!!!!!!!).

I don't commute to nyc anymore so won't be able to use them up before the 8/31 deadline.

Anyone interested in buying one or both at reduced rate?

please DM - open to reasonable offers!

Math Maturity Test and Honors Track Questions

Hi everyone - incoming math major freshman in the fall, and I've already gotten some really good feedback about the BS+MS degree / Honors track here (thanks!).

I have some additional questions:

  1. Anyone has taken the Math maturity test? What's in it (what topics? is it more proof based)? Can I prep for it?
  2. Approx how many students are in the BS+MS/honors track per year? Is this something fairly common, or pretty rare? Is everyone doing this really cracked?

thank you!

Applying to REUs - advice please

I'll be an incoming college freshman in the fall studying math, and want to apply to REUs for next summer.

Would love some advice/tips on the application (do I need a "story" like for college apps?), and what I should focus on in the essays/statements.

Thank you!

Placement tests and skipping intro classes

Incoming freshman and have already taken linear algebra (local community college) and Calc IV (4-year university nearby), and potentially can skip more (self studied Real and Functional Analysis, PDEs and ODE, etc)

At what point do I reach out to schedule placement tests to skip those classes, and hopefully get into the Honors track for math? I want to try to get the MS degree along with my BS in math in four years.

Thank you!

CMU vs Columbia for Quant

If I'm aiming to get into a top quant firm, would CMU or Columbia give me a better shot / more opportunities?

Some background:

Heading to CMU in the fall for Math major + CS minor (in Mellon school of science. Thinking about getting double major in Math + CS if possible).

I'm thinking about transfer to Columbia, and is wondering which school would give me better / more opportunities to get into a top quant firm / internships?

Of course transfer applications would be competitive, but wondering if it'd be worth my effort to even try and do the application.

I'm a fairly advanced math student (at CMU, I'm hoping to graduate with both a BS and MS in Math in four years). The second option would be to go on and get a PhD in Math.

I'll be starting CMU in the fall as a math major (still deciding CS minor or double major).

I'm aiming to graduate in 4 years with both BS and MS degrees in Math (probably pure math).

What can I do in the next four years to maximize my chances at getting into quant?

- during the school year. Eg. Make sure to take stats courses?

- during the summer. For example, should I focus on research or internship opportunities?

- specific clubs I should join? other activities that would help?

I know it'll be competitive, but just want to get an idea of what I should focus on if this is the route I want to take.

Thank you.
