Antique Spool Bedroom Set - maker? Wood? [Boston USA]

I am looking for information about my great-grandmother’s 3/4 spool bed, dresser and side table. I used and loved this furniture when I was a teenager, but it’s been in the attic since my folks moved in 1984. I am looking to sell the set now because we simply have nowhere to put it.

Can anyone tell me more about it from these pictures? I believe it’s from the late 1800s, based on who it belonged to first. I don’t know what kind of wood it is, or who the manufacturer was. It has “W Ex.” stencilled on the back of the dresser.

The mirror on the dresser is supported by two vertical spool rods with wooden “screws” that fasten the rods to the mirror. There are holes in the top of the dresser that the rods fit down through, and they are fastened with square, wooden “nuts” that screw onto the bottom of each rod.

Curiously, the bed frame has no obvious way to support a mattress. No holes, hooks or any other way to fasten ropes. The side rails appear to be original, and I have 2 out of 4 original bolt sets to mount them, but unless you put a box spring directly on the rails, there’s no way to support it.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, as well as any advice on where to sell the set.

New hiking boots … from 2023 … on deep discount

I am looking to buy new boots that are a little larger than my current boots (due to toes getting banged up on downhills). I found a very good deal on the same model boots I currently use and love, but the listing says they are “2023”, meaning, I believe, that they are new but were manufactured in 2023. They’re being sold by the actual manufacturer, not, like, CheepStuff.com (haha), so it feels like maybe this is okay?

The difference in price is significant. $89 for the 2023 boots, $259 for the current model.

Would you buy boots knowing they were 3 years old already? ALSO, is going up .5 size (Euro) enough to relieve toe bash or should I consider going up a full size?

TIA.

Franconia Ridge on 6/16

I had the privilege of joining the Franconia Ridge clan on Tuesday, after the area received 3” of rain on Sunday night. Let’s just say, it’s clear how Falling Waters got its name. A trail runner we crossed paths with mentioned that this was the highest water he’d seen in nearly 2 dozen trips up the trail. The water crossings were pretty tricky. Lots of folks got wet feet. And many trail sections were just basically stream beds. But it was still amazing.

The hike was spectacular, and the weather was excellent. Unseasonably cool for June, with a perfect combination of sun/clouds/wind to hike comfortably the whole time. I can’t imagine it being any better, honestly.

Hiking down Lafayette to the hut felt like scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, when they’re storming the castle but it keeps getting further away 😂. We were grateful for the rest rooms and the baked goods.

10 out of 10. Would do it again!
