A 3-row SUV with 1,000 hp sounds insane—but do we actually need this?
I was reading about Lucid's new Gravity GT-S today, and the performance numbers are honestly ridiculous—in a good way.
Over 1,000 horsepower.
0–60 mph in 3.1 seconds.
Three rows of seats.
A few years ago those specs would have described a hypercar. Now they're attached to something you could drive your kids to school in.
What really caught my attention isn't the horsepower itself. EVs have made huge power surprisingly easy to achieve thanks to instant torque. The bigger question is whether we're entering an era where manufacturers are chasing bigger numbers simply because they can.
Personally, I'd rather see companies compete on things like charging speed, efficiency, battery longevity and interior quality. Once you're already around 3 seconds to 60 mph, I'm not sure another few tenths actually change everyday driving.
That said, I think Lucid is doing something smart here. A halo performance model can make the entire lineup more desirable, even for buyers who will never purchase the GT-S.
So I'm curious where everyone stands on this.
Would you rather buy a 1,000+ hp electric SUV, or would you trade some performance for another 80–100 miles of range and a lower price?
