Plant lights fo bioactive terrariums?

What do y'all use for plant lights for if you have planted enclosures? I'm having a hard time finding good and consistent information about decent plant lights for a lsrge enclosure. I've already got a uvb light picked out, but I want the enclosure to be planted too, for encrichment and for it to be bioactive, so I'm wondering if any of y'all have good strong plant light recommendations

Locust Borer Beetle Pictures

I figure I should actually share some of the photos I've taken. I just have a horde of several years' worth of near professional quality bug photos saved on my phone.

Here's a sample of one of my favorites. Well, one of my favorite non-milkweed-related ones because I have a whole separate category for milkweed and milkweed related insects because of how enamored I am by milkweed.

Thos photo is from before I got my new camera, so this is actually one of the lower quality photos I have saved.

Let me know if y'all would like to see more bug appreciation photos, I have literally hundreds of photos saved just like this. I saw about half a dozen Monarch eggs on my walk last night, too.

Strong UVB Lighting Recommendations?

Hi, I got a big ass enclosure for my skink but it's 3 feet tall and I'm having trouble finding a uvb lamp option that is strong enough at that distance. Can anyone recommend how to ensure my skink is healthy and doesn't get metabolic hone disease and gets all the uvb it needs? Thank you!

I am going to have the happiest skink ever (enclosure showcase)

Look at the size of this thing. Idk what I'll ever do if I have to move

Bonding activities? How do you bond and socialize your skink to ensure it's sociable and friendly with people?

Hi, exactly the title. I'm very excited to be getting one soon, visiting a store tomorrow to look for breeders and such. What are good bonding and trust exercises for the little baby?

I'm SOO excited for a BTS that I literally can't sleep or focus on anything else. I've been setting everything up

I want skink handler friends to talk to about my excitement. I literally picked this species for temperament and for being a lizard you can handle regularly and didn't find them particularly cute at first but even before I have one, just learning all about them and watching videos, their weird oversized head has grown on me and now I think they're adorable.

I am confused about the calcium phosphorous thing, had never even heard of this and I've been doing a LOT of research before hearing ANYTHING about this, it does not appear to be readily available knowledge. Is this a thing for all reptiles or just BTSs?

But they're so cute, and the ivory morph I've discovered just today are BEAUTIFUL I want that one but they're probably a fortune. Morph isn't too important to me, but an ivory one would be a dream come true.

I'm so excited! I'm going to get a BTS! Breeder recommendations?

Skip to the questions if you want, but I'm just very excited so I have a lot to say. I've always wanted a pet lizard my whole life but growing up my family was terribly negligent and abusive with animals and I kinda have some fault severe trauma surrounding it, but after researching for like months about which lizard species would be the best suited to my needs and researching for like months about Blue Tongue Skink care and I finally decided start making the moves to get one thanks to a LOT of help from a great friend. Since I have a lot of really severe trauma around animal abuse growing up, I didn't feel comfortable housing it in the "absolute minimum" of a 4 foot by 2 foot, so it'll be living lavishly in a 6 foot by 3 foot, bioactive, planted enclosure. I have everything already planned and ordered except for the clean up crew of isopods and springtails, the hides and basking rock, the plants, and the lizard itself. I need to wait until the terrarium and substrate is set up before I get those things.

  1. What breeders do any of you recommend? I am looking for a captice bred, Northern breed, ideally a newborn or juvenile.

  2. Recommendations for where to find large enough hides and basking rocks would also be appreciated.

  3. Recommendations for plants for the terrarium and where to buy such plants would also be aplreciation.

Thank you!

Boraras species identification?

These were advertized as chilis but the more I look at them the more I'm starting to believe that they're mislabeled least rasboras. Nbd to me, but I am having my suspicions

I know we're all reptile lovers in this sub, but nature includes predators and parasites. Animals eat each other, and, believe it or not, the ecosystem depends on and even benefits from this. You don't get to decide that you can intervene in nature just because it's an ugly part of nature. Leave no trace actually means leave NO trace.
