Dr Z is lying through his teeth
Go ahead and look at the thoughts about him on the psychiatry subreddit. He acted unethically and is not speaking truthfully about psychosis symptoms nor her own reported symptoms prior to the murders. He continues to claim that she told the medical professionals that treated her things she never ever said. For instance, he says she spoke about hallucinations in December. Unless he is speaking about his own conversations with her, in which she reflected on that time period, he’s straight up lying. Every single professional that evaluated her before the murders including the TWO different psychiatrists that separately evaluated her AFTER the murders (before Dr. Z) all say she denied auditory/visual hallucinations.
Additionally, he said she was having intrusive thoughts which he claims are always ego dystonic (not in alignment with goals/desires/values). Well she did in fact want to kill herself so I don’t know how those are ego dystonic. He then described these intrusive thoughts as a voice in her head. He says these were indicative of psychosis. Okay, sir. That’s called her own stream of consciousness. Not a hallucination. She now claims per the lawsuit that these were always auditory hallucinations. I’ve confirmed with DSM and other sources that an auditory hallucination is NOT the same thing as an intrusive thought. It’s always audibly heard and experienced with the ears. The location of the voice it may seem to be inside the skull or outside of oneself but they’re always audibly heard… no different than hearing someone speaking to you.
Why is he calling these intrusive thoughts? Intrusive thoughts, even disturbing ones like “what if I hit that pedestrian with my car right now?” are universal. People with OCD (which is NOT a psychotic disorder) have intrusive thoughts like “stab your husband” or “kill yourself”. They feel very upset about these thoughts and yet they do not want to obey them nor do they act on them. That’s why they’re called ego-dystonic. These are NOT audible hallucinations. They are not audibly heard.
He mentioned she thought these thoughts were being inserted by an external force. Okay, sir, well that would perhaps fall under a delusion, per the DSM, not a hallucination.
Finally, he said disassociation/depersonalization is a sign of psychosis. These symptoms are very common in panic and anxiety disorders. They’re not indicative of psychosis in and of themselves!
He is lying and exaggerating the truth. I feel bad for every person with OCD or panic disorder who experience intrusive thoughts and/or DPR who are now wondering if they’re psychotic lol.
