Why do we associate feminine men with sexuality?
I’ve noticed that online, feminine men are often automatically associated with sexual content, and I think that can be frustrating for people who simply enjoy presenting themselves in a feminine or cute way.
I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with adults choosing to post certain kinds of content. People can express themselves however they want. My issue is when that becomes such a common representation that people start assuming a feminine guy is automatically looking for sexual attention or should be viewed in a sexual way.
A guy can like skirts, makeup, cute clothes, nail polish, or a feminine aesthetic simply because he likes those things. It doesn’t have to mean anything sexual.
I also think the way these terms are presented online can influence how people perceive them. If someone’s first exposure to a term is through sexualized content, it’s easy for them to assume that’s what the term inherently means.
I just wish there were more room for feminine men to exist online without their appearance automatically being interpreted sexually.
Feminine doesn’t mean sexual. Cute doesn’t mean sexual.
