putting GPU to sleep when VM goes to sleep

I'm thinking of getting a couple of RTX 3080s for my Proxmox server and passing them through to a Linux VM. I'm not going to be using the VM all the time, so I'd like to be able to have it hibernate or sleep, and put the GPUs into sleep as well. Is that something that's reliably doable?

Safety upgrade questions

I have a question for the safety experts here. When adding safety devices to an older machine, does it have to be brought up to modern standards? Or is it allowed to simply integrate the new devices into the new system?

The company I work for is helping a client with some safety upgrades. They had Omron come in to do the assessment, and we're going to figure out how to integrate the new devices.

I'm pretty sure that when new, they only had e-stop buttons with 700-P relays as an MCR (which are still in use), that cut off the power to the PLC output modules. At some point they added in guard switches and safety relays that also cut off out module power to specific zones. Just to give you guys an idea how old some of this stuff is, there's a palletizer with a SLC500 and the wrapper for it has brushed DC motors. There's also a couple of TI505 remote racks being run by a prosoft card.

I certainly intend to make them aware that the current arrangement isn't up to modern standards, and that just because they have safety relays, soft starters and NEMA contactors are not safety rated. I KNOW the response is going to be questions about if it's really necessary.
